This is a nice lookout tower at the northern aspect of the Zauberwald Hambachtal walking path. If you are visiting with small children, I would not recommend trying to walk here from the southern entrance of the walking path as it is almost 2km of some very uphill segments through wooded areas with poor cellular service. We did a good portion of the Zauberwald from the southern entrance, then went to our car and drove here, where there is thankfully a lot immediately in front of the tower. There is also a community center (which appeared to have a bathroom accessible from the exterior) and a hutte, both of which were closed on this September 2022 Wednesday afternoon. The tower itself is fun; it is a large wooden and metal structure with stairs going up in a square fashion, with sturdy steps and railings, and I think only a toddler would be able to squeeze through gaps in the steps or railings with a lot of effort. The view from the covered top is quite nice, and the platform is rather large (2 or 3 groups of people could be up there without being on top of each other). My three kids ages 6, 4, and 2 had no difficulties climbing to the top and didn't complain even once. No benches or seating at the top, and now that I think of it, I don't think I saw any benches below either, but there were signs telling you what landmarks and towns were in what direction and how far away. Glad we took the extra few minutes to come here after our long walk. Also look into the Windklangskulptur, which is close and also very neat to see (and...

Great stop if you're hiking the area. Beautiful views of the Hunsruck from the top! The little cafe near by was closed but I imagine it would be good for a stop for...

The tower is built with 3 independent pieces of wood, which is very spectacular, with a 360-degree panoramic view of the nearby scenery.

(Stand 13.10.19)
