Wolfgang Christ this 210 ton steel structure was built in 1995 on the coal mine that was closed. Walking towards the tetraeder thorough the gravel road you will get the unforgettable impressions of a looking at the site of a rocket launching station with this huge structure standing still. There is no wonder that some of the locals reported the extraterrestrial activities near this place. The moment you climb near 400 steps you will reach the summit. Don't be afraid to Stand on the tilted and hanging platform. Take a deep breath and enjoy the fantastic view of the beautiful Ruhr area surrounded by huge greenery and industries. Wenn der Tetraeder in Bottrop die Hängepartie einläutet – ein schlappifiziertes Meisterwerk mit Überraschungspotenzial

Der Tetraeder in Bottrop – einst ein industrielles Symbol für Standfestigkeit, Technikverliebtheit und futuristische Landmarkenarchitektur. Heute? Ein faszinierendes Bauwerk, das sich mit Würde seiner Midlife-Crisis stellt – kurzum, es wurde regelrecht schlappifiziert.

Schon beim ersten Anblick wird klar: Der gute Stahlriese wirkt müde. Die sonst so majestätische Silhouette zeigt erste Alterserscheinungen – ein wenig verzogen hier, ein bisschen wackelig da, als hätte das Bauwerk nach einem durchzechten Jahrzehnt beschlossen, sich mal eine Pause zu gönnen. Die Treppen knarzen, die Struktur schwingt ein bisschen mehr mit als früher, und wenn man ganz still ist, hört man fast ein tiefes, seufzendes „Uff“.

Doch genau diese neue Elastizität hat auch ihre Vorteile – man muss ja auch mal positiv denken: Der Tetraeder eignet sich mittlerweile hervorragend zum Ropeswingen! Kaum ein anderer Ort im Ruhrgebiet bietet diese Mischung aus industrieller Ästhetik, luftiger Höhe und einem latent riskanten Nervenkitzel. Wenn man also seine Seile ordentlich festmacht (Stichwort: Versicherung vorher überprüfen!) und etwas Mut mitbringt, eröffnet sich einem eine ganz neue Nutzungsmöglichkeit: Schwingen mit Aussicht! Ob das offiziell erlaubt ist, sei mal dahingestellt – aber Potenzial hat das Ganze auf jeden Fall. Sanfte Bewegung in luftiger Höhe? Das ist nicht mehr nur Physik, das ist Poesie.

Trotz der altersbedingten Materialmüdigkeit bleibt der Tetraeder ein Erlebnis. Die Aussicht vom oberen Plateau ist weiterhin atemberaubend – selbst wenn einem das leichte Schwanken der Konstruktion das Gefühl gibt, auf einem gigantischen Stahl-Trampolin zu stehen. Aber hey, das gehört irgendwie dazu. Ruhrpott-Romantik trifft auf Abenteuerparkour.

Fazit: Der Tetraeder ist wackeliger geworden, ja – aber gerade das verleiht ihm einen sympathischen Charakter. Schlappifiziert, aber nicht aufgegeben. Und wer sich traut, entdeckt darin sogar das wohl ungewöhnlichste Ropeswing-Spot NRWs – mit Stil, Panorama und einer Prise Adrenalin. Empfehlung? Absolut. Aber mit gutem Schuhwerk, festem Griff – und vielleicht einem Seil...

I've seen one of the best sunsets of my life here.

There's no entry fee for visiting this structure. It's open to all and open at all times but be cautious as you would have to trek to that place. Access by vehicle is also possible but I would recommend walking up to the point.

Sunset from here was so beautiful and calm. No sound pollution what so ever. One side there was sunset filling the sky with colors and on the other side, full moon with non disturbing smoke coming up from a chimney. I was lucky to be visiting exactly that time.

Walking trail is also very beautiful. You'll notice the petroleum pipes around the trail. They also add beauty and uniqueness to the place.
