What a fantastic place! It is amazing to find such a building offering so much Information in such a quiet part of the world. The architecture blends in to it's surrounding in such a harmonious way ...respect to the design office. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and no question was too much to answer. Using this visitor’s centre as a base one can walk along any of the well laid out walks which can last up to a few hours. My recommendation is to get up early enough to be there just before sunrise at a lake with a viewing platform to enjoy the show that nature puts on for you. Read moreI haven't seen this part of Germany, but as a 3 and 4 year old I remember (and I'm 67 now!) seeing my grandfather taking me to similar teichs and woodlands just out of Kosel (near Niesky), where he had his farm. That was before after the Russians came and made life miserable at the end of WW2 and then the Eastern German regime which took away his land so that he died not that much later of a broken heart. I gather that a lot of the countryside was then decimated as it was dug up for brown coal, which further polluted the air and destroyed much of the environment.
