Katzenstein Castle — Attraction in Dischingen

We booked this room on a whim. Traveling through Germany, we had wanted to stay in a castle, but thought it would be too expensive. To find this one at a great price was so fun! |You can read the castle history somewhere else, but the short version is that it’s one of the oldest of its kind, it was in disrepair for a number of years. After a fire several years ago, an entrepreneurial older couple bought this gem, and has been restoring it, renting out rooms, and celebrating special events there. ( Christmas market, etc) ||We ate a delicious dinner there the night we checked in. Regional cuisine, and delicious. Be sure to order a salad— it comes with a variety of pickled veggies as well as fresh lettuce and is divine. |Pictures are included w this review.||The breakfast buffet was delicious, and abundant. (Try the dark brown rolls with some butter and jam!)||The castle itself is more restored than we had thought it would be, and we had fun poking around and giving ourselves a tour the morning after our stay. ||The room was good. Our first impression was that the rooms were clean and very spacious, but not very castle-like. All tile floors, and It could have been a hotel room anywhere. ||The biggest problem with that is the sound really carries. Anytime someone talked in the hallway, not only could we hear it, but it echoed through our room. I think it’s nothing a carpet runner in the hall and some area rugs in the room wouldn’t fix. (or maybe a towel under the door). ||All in all, we loved it, and would go back again. Ich wollte heute die Burg besichtigen. Leider geschlossene Hochzeits-Gesellschaft. Ist soweit ja in Ordnung. Aber was nicht in Ordnung ist, dass einen der Parkplatz-Wärter (oder Torhüter) sehr, SEHR unfreundlich und noch dazu laut darauf hinweist, nur weil ich gerne ein Bild machen wollte, und dazu vielleicht 2, höchstens 3 Meter durch das Tor der Strasse auf den Parkplatz trat. Generell liest man es in den Rezensionen, dass der Ton hier wohl etwas rauher ist... Ich wollte weder hinein, noch an den Eingang der Burg selbst. Wenn mann knapp 200km gefahren ist, um u.a. diese Burg anzusehen, ist dies mehr als enttäuschend, nichtmal ein Bild machen zu dürfen. Auch meine Frage, ob ich wenigstens ein Souvenir erstehen könnte, wurde verneint. Ich fahre deutschlandweit und in angrenzende Nachbarländer auf sämtliche Burgen. Habe insgesamt über 230 besucht. So eine Behandlung wie hier habe ich noch nie irgendwo erlebt! Oft wird sogar sehr kulant gehandelt (auch was meine Mini-Hunde betrifft, diese kann ich sogar oft auf den Arm genommen mit rein nehmen, da diese kleiner als eine Katze sind und wohl kaum eine Gefahr für Kinder darstellen - dies wird ja hier als Argument angegeben), oder man darf wenigstens kurz mal in den Innenhof sehen, wenn man schon nicht hinein darf. Dies erwarte ich jedoch nie, die Hunde können im offenen Auto bleiben, und ein FREUNDLICHES nein ist auch in Ordnung. Wie gesagt, dies mit der geschl. Gesellschaft akzeptiere ich auch. Aber solch einen Umgang, wo man noch als "schlecht erzogen" betitelt wird, obwohl man einfach nur höflich nachfragt, ja sogar um ein Souvenir fleht, ist unterirdisch. Freundlichkeit ist keine Einbahnstraße, und wie es in den Wald hineinschallt... Sehr sehr schade, ich könnt grad heulen, und fahre nun sehr enttäuscht nach Hause....😥😥 Sterne gibt's nur, weil ich die Burg an sich wunderschön finde

Edit: ich wollte mir KEINEN ZUTRITT VERSCHAFFEN, sondern NUR EIN BILD MACHEN. Das ist schon ein riesengroßer Unterschied. Und beleidigend war nur einer: Ihr unfreundlicher Mitarbeiter. Möchte auch gerne wissen, wo hier in meiner Bewertung eine Beleidigung zu lesen ist....? 🧐 Ich schildere nur den Sachverhalt. Wie gesagt, es geht hier lediglich um den allgemeinen UMGANGSTON, nicht um das "nicht hinein dürfen". Vielleicht versuchen SIE es mal mit Verständnis und Freundlichkeit den Mitmenschen gegenüber - denn auch das, sowie ein wenig Kulanz, soll überaus glücklich machen 🌻🌸

Aber die negativen Rezensionen bezüglich Ihres Betragens sprechen ja Bände, ebenso wie Ihre teils herablassenden, biestigen und überheblichen Antworten, die fast jedem nur "Frust" andichten... Ein Spiegel wäre hier hilfreich. Freundlichkeit ist hier definitiv ein großes, noch nie...

A bit out of the way but very worth the drive. We stayed in mid May and arrived on a Monday. The Castle is not open on Mondays and there was only two other guests. We felt like we had the place to ourselves. The caretakers, a lovely hard-working couple opened up the castle and let us explore. We ordered dinner quite late and not only was it not a problem it was delicious! We ate outdoors and enjoyed the sunset. Our room was beautiful, the beds comfortable and we were nice and warm. Breakfast was perfect. I highly recommend adding this to your experience in Germany! On the drive there we were driving through a very small town. We had to stop to allow a family of farmers who were bringing their milk cows home for the day. Father and son on bikes and Mom and Grandpa walking behind. A beautiful sight and you will not see this type of thing if you stay on...
