Trimberg Castle — Attraction in Elfershausen (VGem)

A beautifully maintained (remains of a) castle which is open every Sunday and public holiday with different organisations offering entertainment as well as food and drinks. We just happened to see the castle from the Autobahn on the way to our destination and decided to pay it a visit on our trip back on Sunday, which turned out to be a great decision! It is a beautiful castle. On top of a mountain. The road gets thinner and thinner, but eventually there is space to park. Unfortunately it was closed for corona. We were able to walk around and take beautiful pictures, the view from there is incredible. I peered a window besides the door and could see tables and benches, maybe they sell food.I'll be back to...

Schon von weitem sichtbare Burg. Wie an den vielen Infotafel nachzulesen, erbaut von den Herren von Trimberg. Diese gaben die Burg dem Hochstift Würzburg zum Lehen. Im Bauernkrieg wurde sie durch Verrat eingenommen und zerstört. Der Neubau fiel dann dem 30jährigem Krieg zum Opfer. Der Wiederaufbau wurde dann schlossähnlich ausgeführt. Bei der Säkularisation kam die Anlage an den Kurfürsten von Bayern. Mit der Folge Verkauf auf Abbruch und Zerfall. König Ludwig I von Bayern hat dann die Reste sichern lassen und sorgte für die Einrichtung einer Sommerwirtschaft für den Tourismus. Die Bewirtschaftung auf der Burg hat also Tradition. Es sind viele Gebäude und Mauern erhalten man hat fast eine komplette Burg. Toll. Und nun zum Schatten: Nur Sonntags geöffnet. Schade, bei Wikipedia hab ich aber einen nachvollziehbaren Grund gefunden. Nachdem die Bewirtschaftung eingestellt wurde und keine Aufsicht mehr auf der Burg war, kam es beim Leertstand zu wilden Zerstörungen. Schade, bei anderen Burgen funktioniert es doch auch...
