Blackhorse Museum Fulda e.V. — Attraction in Fulda

I visited the Blackhorse Museum in Fulda on June 12th and really enjoyed the displays and conversations with the staff. What was even more special to me about the visit is that I served with the Blackhorse Regiment and the museum is literally located in the hall where both my platoon's office and my barrack's room was located. This was my home for over two years. So many memories! The museum is well put together and contains so much history about my unit, the 11th ACR, as well as our predecessors in Fulda, the 14th ACR. Although a little shocking to see what has become of Downs Barracks and Sickles Army Airfield since the 11th ACR left, it was a very nostalgic visit and worthwhile for anyone who has served in the 11th ACR or has an interest in the US Army / Fulda Gap mission. So glad we were able to actually find this German museum about the ACRs in the village of Fulda, not far from the interzonal cold war Fulda Gap border trace. Tucked away in an industrial business park and nestled with a local elementary school/ daycare the Blackhorse civilian museum is a treasure trove of Ironhorse and Blackhorse collectable memorabilia and real world TA-50 donated items. No English spoken here, but the on scene curator/IT guy is cordial and helpful. More funding needs pushed into this museum to help it gain greater space and better display conditions. Die Öffnungszeiten werden sehr liberal ausgelegt. Nachdem ich mit dem Bus, der einmal die Stunde fährt, hochgefahren bin wurde ich informiert, dass die Angestellten heute was anderes zu tun hätten. Nicht besonders freunlich oder hilfreich. Es war so ein 28-30° heißer Tag und das Museum im Wohngebiet außerhalb der Stadt. Nie wieder.
