We visited on a Saturday, early Afternoon, however it wasn't terribly busy. €25 each return seemed a little high at first (although much cheaper than Zugspitz). However, being honest with ourselves, without the use of a cable car we probably wouldn't have been able to make it up on foot without rending ourselves useless for the rest of the holiday. So, cable car it was! On the way up, it was clear why it wasn't a cheap ride, as the asent felt long and extensive, with a middle station breaking it up half way. Immediately, the views from the cab are impressive, riding just above tree height. However, the best it yet to come when you reach the top, where you can take a circular walk on the 'relatively' flat peak, taking in views towards Austria and what appears to be endless mountain peaks. We were so glad to get a chance to be up there, and hope that one day we are fit enough to skip the cable car. However, until then it's worth paying to get up there, and experiencing it...

The cars were clean and offered panoramic views of the mountains. It takes about 18 minutes to go from the ground level to the top of the peak. I would definitely recommend this. There are other lifts that will take you to different (and taller) peaks, but I was on a half day schedule and was recommended I do this one for time purposes. It is about a 25 minute walk from the flixbus and train station (by a Burger King). Nice views during the walk to get there. There's a bus around town, but I...
Read moreAfter walking up, my knees were so glad they didn't have to walk back down! The views are pretty good. There's a Valley station, Middle station, top station. You can go up and/or down by cablecar between any two locations for varying fees, clearly set out. The bottom station had handy (free) little maps of various walking routes from the valley station up. Clearly marked trail. They say 4 hours from the valley to the top. Depending on your level of fitness, you can do it in 2hr or less, but why not stop and enjoy the view. Restaurant at the top is pretty reasonable.
A nice...
