Houbirg - Hollow Rock — Attraction in Happurg (VGem)

This location is simply breathtaking. I could’ve stayed here forever to be completely honest. There are two ways to get here, one is a steep ascent up the side of the “mountain”. I had to bear crawl at times because waling vertically made me nearly lose my footing. The other way is up an access road near Südring 2. We were told we could drive up this road but opted to walk it instead. It was a big hill, but want so bad to walk because it was a paved road. We got lost and used the Komoot app to guide us along. Today (23/05/2021) we went there and it was little rainy in the morning session. It was a great experience for us to hike on the difficult route. We had some fun with small slippery areas. After the view point we walked through forest through the cycling path to reach the dam area of the river. That was really funny with some mistakes and findings. Wirkliches Weltkulturerbe! Bei der Houbirg und der diesen Bereich einbezogenen natürlichen Karsthöhle "Hohler Fels" handelt es sich um ein einzigartiges kulturgeschichtliches Denkmal. Der Hohle Fels ist bereits seit 60.000 Jahren von Jägern und Sammlern genutzt worden, von dort hat man eine einzigartige Aussicht aus der Kalksteinwand auf das darunter liegende Tal. Ab dem Jahr 1600 vor Christus (Urnenfelderkultur) wurde dann derselbe Bergrücken befestigt und mit einer 4,5 km langen Mauer umgeben. Die Ausmaße dieser Mauer sind noch heute gigantisch, am Fuß der Mauer beträgt diese häufig 10 bis 20 m, die heute noch erhaltene Höhe liegt regelmäßig über 5, häufig bei 10 m, so dass bei einer Bauweise in der Art einer murus gallicus von einer Gesamthöhe von über 15 Metern auszugehen ist. Diese heute noch komplett ersichtliche Mauer kann man begehen - ein einzigartiges Erlebnis ! Zur Anfahrt: Ins Navi eingeben Happurg, Südring 2.
