Oderteich is about 6 km from the Torfhaus. It's easy to get there by car. The roads are very good and marked with signs so it is easy to find it even without the navigation. There are a lot of tourists in the area. The lake is surrounded by forest roads but is not open along its entire length. One part is closed as a nationale park reserved just for animals, birds to protect them in their natural habitat. There are no restaurants or cafes nearby. The closest are in Torfhaus or in St. Andreasberg so it is best to take everything with you for the picnic, hiking. The paths are easy to walk, they are not steep, but there are a lot of pine roots which are growing here in there natural habitat. The Sonnenberg ski area, Brocken's the highest peak, is also nearby, so in case someone comes from another region or country can combine a visit for a few days with other tourist attractions. The nature is very beautiful, there are many paths. I can gladly recommend it for families with children and for all nature lovers. The surrounding forests are mostly pine but there are also some birch and beech. From animals, you can usually see foxes and hawks, and sometimes also lynxes. Two hundred meters from the lake, on the main road you can park your car on the large parking space. Parking is free and unpaved, it is covered just with ordinary rubble. The best that you wear shoes adapted for water and mud. You need around 1,5 hour to walk around the lake. In some places, pine trees grow, which are among the oldest in the Harz and are about 300 years old. In the summer is possible to swim in the water because it is not very deep. The water has a rust color, so it is not transparent in all parts. I did not see any fish in there so I can not say or if there are a kind of fisch in the lake. I wish you...
Read moreIt's a nice lake to walk around, but if you wanted to take a swim, you'd be disappointed. Kind of like if you had planned to eat a really delicious chocolate ice cream with chocolate fudge on top, and instead is handed a cheap sundae instead. Or if you had imagined getting a hot caramel cappuccino, but instead it's just lukewarm instant coffee. Or if you get a really big present for Christmas, but when you open it, it's just a large box that used to contain a vacuum cleaner, but now it only has a sweater in it. So, I do recommend it for a walk. But if you want to go for a fresh dive on a sunny day, go somewhere else. Also, my friend Simon saw...
