This is the old castle of Hohnstein, that has become a place where events like weddings take place, and also has a hotel and a hostel. The hostel rooms are in the tower, in 2 floors. Each floor contains 5 rooms. There are 3 bathrooms and 3 showers per floor. Soap is provided in the bathrooms. Showers don't have hangers so it can be quite uncomfortable to place clothes. I stayed in a room with 8 beds (3 bunk beds). Hot water is perfect. The floor had moquete, with a strange smell. No curtains in the windows nor mosquito nets. They provided sheets, big pillows (not comfortable) and blankets. All clean and tidy. In the room there was only one socket (for 8 people!). The breakfast was quite diversified with coffee, butter, mermalade, juice and ham, cheese, etc, everything for a perfect sandwich. I went in July, and no other place was open in the night for a meal, so you are also forced to pay for buffet in the restaurant. The meal costed 14 euros, and it was quite simple, with one variety of meat, dumplings, salads with mayonnaise. Drinks and dessert were not included in the price (there's an automatic dispenser that charges 2,5 per can of drink or water). The meal is served till 20hs. The check in is till 18hs, so if you are planning to arrive here after 18hs, you need to give advice. There's no reception during the night.||The day I arrived there was a wedding party in the dinning room, with fireworks, that lasted a long. There were also a group of 20 teenagers camping in the garden, shouting and watching a movie till 23.30hs in the night (a Friday). The people managing the hotel didn't seem to care about noises potentially disturbing tired guests that have been walking all day in the woods... It seems this works more like a club where the locals meet in the pub/restaurant to have beers and make social life. The beautiful scenery that inspired German paintors was ruined by the rock music that was coming from the boys...

Read moreTLDR : Very nice location but no wifi in your room (Hotel room), and poor service.
The location is very nice ! Few places offer such view.
However, the service is not great. The receptionist talks only in German. It is usually not an issue since we can now translate everything live with some apps. She had no time for that. She saw we don't speak the language but kept talking to us with no pause. Even asking her to repeat was difficult for us. Given the rooms are a couple streets further from the reception, we were fortunate we started the app when she started giving direction. Alone this is not a big issue.
We went to our room to plan our next walk, but the room has no wifi/internet. We have to go to the pub or near the reception.
Once in the pub, to get a drink we had to wait 10 minutes in front of the counter, with nobody to talk to. I understand it is low staff, and they were busy in the kitchen.
Overall, this is not what I expected for an hotel and the price paid.
NB: I understand there is a youth hotel and a hotel. I am refering to the hotel in...
