This part of Germany used to be the centre of precious stones mining. Now the're closed. This Steinkaulenberg mine is the one that open for public. It's just open in summer time. Check the open time first before you come. We hike up and down a little bit to reach the visitor centre. It's good to gain some knowledge about geology on the way. Since there's a path with many informations. My children like them very much. reading almost every information. To enter the mine you must join a tour with guide. There's also tour times in their website. You will wear a helmet, then walk underground. It's very informative. I don't know whether they have tour in other language than german. We recommend starting with the tour first so when u get to the field you know what u r looking at. We got the tour and had the app that explains what’s happening. It’s a little hard to know what they are talking about at points but the Guide points out what they are talking about. Friendly guild and speaks good English to answer ur questions. Read moreA great guided tour through the cave. The tour is in multiple languages via audio equipment. The staff is very friendly and is helpfull in answering any question you have on the subject. The tour text itself is quite detailed and contains humor :). Take into account that from the carpark there is still a 10 - 15 min walk to get to the cave. The path does have some steep climbs and decends. The place can be visited by wheelchair. All the pavements are doable and there is even a handicap toilet next to the mine.
