The Messerschmitt Museum in Manching is truly one of a kind and absolutely worth seeing if you’re in the area. However, visiting can be tricky: despite being listed as “open 24 hours,” it is almost never actually open to the public. Unfortunately, the online reservation system is also offline, making it impossible to book a visit in advance. In the past, it was at least possible to register up to a day ahead, with guided tours usually offered on the last Friday of each month, but that no longer seems to be the case. Achtung! Messerschmitt!

Small but fun museum lovingly tended by knowledgeable curators/engineers. (Working) replicas of more famous pieces are on display but attention should be given to earlier pieces. There is a real attempt to tell the historical story and the wider developments in flight through Herr Messerschmitt's career. The workshop ambience really shows you that this is a living restoration/history (note the stripped down engine blocks), not a stuffy...

The museum has a great collecting of still flying (!) Messerschmitt airplanes. It's free of charge but one has to register in advance as it's inside a working Airbus Defense and Space factory. Also, only citizens of ~NATO countries are allowed. The tour was in German but a guide was speaking English as well. The tours are happening something like...
