Burg Mitterfels — Attraction in Mitterfels (VGem)

Burg Mitterfels comprises several medieval and modern buildings plus the ruins of a medieval castle. You can walk through the ruins, but be sure to also take the nature trail along the bottom edge of the walls from the parking lot back around to the church for a better view of the forest and vine-covered walls. The museum is in one of the medieval buildings and has an extensive collection of 19th and 20th century artifacts from the area. The information is all in German but the collection is interesting and includes several floors of themed displays about daily life and careers including kitchens and cooking equipment (note the giant kraut tools), fire fighting equipment (including a non-motorized fire engine from Steinburg), blacksmithing (complete with forge, apron, bellows and many tools), the cellar prison cell (including a life-sized figure of a prisoner), a pharmacy, military service, and...
