Schloss Weißenstein — Attraction in Pommersfelden

In the middle of nowhere lies the beautiful and magical castle of Lothar Franz von Schönbron. The building houses stunning art work and impressive architecture and the castle grounds give a pompous impression. It comes to no suprise that Hollywood has knocked on the doors of the castle before. The château park seems unkempt and ragged at first glance until you come across a sign explaining that the grounds have been utilized by fallow deer. Some of them showed up on our visit and enchanted us fairly quickly. The only critique of Schloss Weißenstein would be the prices as you pay 7 Euro as a student to enter the building and another Euro to gain access to the park. Now, this may not seem like much, yet, the accessible area won't take more than an hour to explore in depth and since the park is left to nature, I personally am not aware what the money is being used for. War bisher zwei Mal dort. Beim ersten Mal waren wir eine Gruppe und haben die Schlossbesichtigung gemacht und alle fanden, dass es sich voll gelohnt hat. Ein wirklich unglaublich schönes Schloss. Eine Freundin kaufte sich damals die Fotoerlaubnis und machte wahnsinnig tolle Bilder. Eigentlich wollten wir noch einen Kaffee trinken, aber das Schlosscafe hatte an diesem Tag leider zu. Der nächste Besuch fand in Pandemiezeiten 2021 statt. Diesmal fiel mein Fazit nicht ganz so gut aus. Eine Führung gab es aus Coronagründen nicht und die vorhandenen Infos waren leider eher dürftig. Diesmal war ich mit meinem Freund dort, der sehr fotobegeistert ist. Als er an der Kasse nach einer Fotoerlaubnis fragte, war die Antwort: gibt es nicht. Sehr enttäuschend, da ich ja wusste, dass es beim letzten Besuch noch diese Möglichkeit gab. Generell völlig unbegreiflich, warum man den "zahlenden" Besuchern in Zeiten von Instagram & Co. gänzlich die Möglichkeit nimmt ein paar Bilder zu machen. Mit uns kam übrigens ein Pärchen ins Schloss, das keine FFP2-Masken dabei hatte und musste deswegen leider wieder gehen. Anbieten konnte man ihnen an der Kasse keine. Scheinbar ist die Familie Schönborn wohl nicht so dringend auf die Eintrittsgelder angewiesen. Die Geschichten aus den vorherigen Kommentaren sind wohl kein Einzelfall.

Nun noch zur Parkanlage. Beim zweiten Besuch haben wir diese zusätzlich besichtigt. Am Drehkreuz muss man zusätzlich einen Euro bezahlen. Den Preis fanden wir fair, schließlich muss der Park ja auch in Schuss gehalten werden. Es war ein ganz netter Spaziergang, aber jetzt auch nicht wahnsinnig spektakulär.

Noch ein paar Verbesserungsvorschläge für die Zukunft: Wer Eintritt bezahlt, sollte auch so die Möglichkeit bekommen die Parkanlage zu besuchen (vielleicht eine Art Kombiticket anbieten, bei der der Park nur 50 Cent Aufschlag kostet) Fotoerlaubnis bitte wieder einführen. Begeisterte Fotografen zahlen gerne und das ist doch für das Schloss auch eine super Publicity In der einstündigen Führung bleibt leider nur wenig Zeit die Räumlichkeiten auf sich wirken zu lassen. Vor allem in der Gemäldegalerie reicht die Zeit vorne und hinten nicht. Als die Namen von sehr großen Künstlern (Rubens, van Dyck, Tizian, Dürer) fielen, war ich erstmal sprachlos. Sowas sieht man definitiv nicht alle Tage. Dieser Sammlung muss unbedingt mehr Beachtung geschenkt werden. Evt. könnte man ja eine Extended Version der Standardführung anbieten, bei man sich noch 30 Minuten mehr Zeit nimmt und die Meisterwerke...

The castle is very beautiful and well kept. But I will give only 4 stars cause of the tour. You can visit only with guide. Most of the informations are about the paintings and most of them you can not see very well cause of the light. The castle ist big but you visit only 9 rooms of it during one hour. For me was the tour boring and I found out very little about the castle. The park closes at 4 although the castle ist till 6 open. You can not take pictures but if you wanna pay to take pictures is nothing in the price...
