I've been visiting here for over 40 years and on a good clear day you can see over Minden into Lower Saxony, down into Porta Westfalica, across towards Vlotho, and with the new visitor centre, restaurant and rebuilt terrace, it is well worth a visit, just be aware parking is no longer free it was on the day of my visit 5€ for 4 hours, allowing you time to visit the monument and walk along the ridge behind the monument with great views down into Bad Oeynhausen, Kreis Herford and beyond as well as into Kreis Minden-Lübbecke on the other side. The parking machines take cash (coin) and card payments!

Beautiful Monument which is well preserved and worth seeing! Big parking space is available. For wheelchair users there are reserved parking places. At the parking space there is a Kiosk where you can buy Souvenirs and a cup of coffee. The monument is about a 500 meters slight uphill walk from the parking space, the monument is wheelchair accessible. Great view over the Weser (when the weather conditions are good) is waiting for you. The monument is huge which you will realize when you are standing next to it. Recommended

Gigantisches Denkmal - dem damaligen Deutschen Geist entsprechend. Leider heruntergekommenes Stadtbild ... keine Anfahrtsmöglichkeiten mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln Mo.-Fr. Entweder zu Fuss hoch wandern o. Fahrrad steil hochschieben -allerdings gesund! Veralterte Bahn/Busstationen z. -- Gigantic monument in keeping with the German spirit of the time. Unfortunately, the townscape is run down... no public transport options Monday to Friday. Either hike up on foot or push your bike up the steep hill - but it's healthy! Outdated train/bus stations, e.g. information boards are not electronic and only in German. No tourist information at Porta Westfalica station - not at all in keeping with the monumental monument. Many foreign visitors travelled on by train after arriving because they felt out of place at the station and in the town of Porta Westfalica. Sad but true. The monument is also unfortunately very neglected - rubbish everywhere and meter-high weeds grow around the absolutely impressive monument - does that correspond to the German spirit of today? The new museum built into the mountain beneath the monument and the Turkish restaurant next door are recommended - great views.

Superb historic landmark. It got modernized and now has good parking, a high class, slightly expensive restaurant as well as a miniture museum. Great view to a lot of the surrounding landscape. The most recent addition is a quite extensive playground for the kids. If you want to hike, thats also quite possible. It is wheelchair accessible all around. The only tarnish is the trash and glass shards everywhere, sadly a now common sight in germany.

Impressive place with a stunning view over the land. Many times passing by this place down the valley watching this old emperor up the hill I asked myself how the country would look like from his position and what he sees? Finally I drove the 15min up the hill, took the few 100m walk from the car park to his monument - and was amazed...
