I came here on a weekday July afternoon with my mother-in-law and three kids ages 6, 4, and 2 years. We parked at the designated parking lot (Parkplatz Rheinstein, which was easy to find though directy along and nexzt to the very busy riverside route 9), and made our way up the zig zag paved, stroller friendly (assuming you don't mind pushing it uphill) path to the castle kasse. Once there, we were met by a friendly English and German speaking woman who sold us our tickets (€7.00 for adults, €3.50 for children 5-14 years). The kasse had a nice selection of gifts and toys and ice cream. We then entered through the turnstile into a small patio with picnic tables (and a lot of bees). From there, we explored the castle, which consisted of a lower garden terrace area (that had a wedding in it at the time of our visit), a chapel, a larger courtyward with a fountain that overlooked the river, a tower you can climb up (WITH VERY STEEP STAIRS MADE OF WROUGHT IRON), and a large interior with multiple levels of furnished rooms with educational signs on the history of each room. There was also a beautiful restaurant, which I would have liked to eat at if I didn't have such young children with me (I think it would have been "allowed", but just not enjoyable for me); it seemed to have a beautiful terrace overlooking the river from the tables). There were small but clean bathrooms, somewhat out of the way in the back corner of the castle. The whole visit took about 1 hour moving at a semi-quick speed (slow walking due to children, no lingering due to children). It was a wonderful visit worth the 1 hour drive, though we did add on another stop to make the trip more worthwhile. I highly recommend coming here if you are in the area and want to see a beautifully restored, slightly smaller (compared to the nearby Richenstein, at least) "fairy tale" castle with amazing...
Read moreOne of the beautiful castles on the river Rhein. It is not huge castle. If you are lucky you might be able to see the the person who is maintaining/owning the castle. This castle is located between Trechtingshausen and Bingen. There is no real public transport connection to this location. One way is to take a taxi from Bingen railway station. It might cost you around 20 euros. Another option is to take a romantic tour which includes a boat trip to the Rheinstein along with the visit to Rüdesheim am Rhein and Assmannhausen with a cable car and chair lift respectively. Also the ticket for the castle visit is included in this tour. This tour is roughly 20 euros per person. I would definitely recommend this one. If you decide to take this tour be prepared to spend a whole day and not plan any other activities than the one indicated in this itinerary. More information about romantic tour you can find it in the Seilbahn Rüdesheim website. For some reason you decide not to take this tour, them remember that if you decide to visit Burg Sooneck the same day, there is a combination ticket for 8 Euros where you can visit both Rheinstein and Burg Sooneck.
About the hike to the castle, the pathway is a bit steep. I would advice you to have sturdy footwear.
As for tickets if you intend to get tickets at the castle you can get them immediately. If you decide to get the romantic tour better do it early. As for the visitation timing, I would recommend you to visit prior to 11am when all the boat trips would start and batches of people would arrive. The car parking is at the foothills of the castle from where you start your hike. It is also the place where the boat trips dock their boats when on a romantic tour. One thing I would like to point out is that the car parking is a...
Read moreWhat can I say, we had a fairytale wedding on this enchanted castle with its towers and chambers and knights, hidden gardens and secret spots! While for us us guests in one of the two hotel rooms and as the bride and groom everything seemed very out of this world, we know and appreciate how much hard work goes into this place and to keep it maintained, looked after and loved the way it is.
Our wedding could not have been better, I know so many brides stressed out of their ears before the wedding, but as the Hecher family offers what I call the "no worries - we take care of it all" - package, all we had to worry about were seating arrangements, music and name cards. Guests were entertained by Mr Hecher sr, who conducted the guided tour through the castle, the guests were actually almost late for dinner as they enjoyed it so much and kept asking questions :) the view, the look and feel, the little touches can be experienced all around the castle. I think we had such a relaxed wedding because we were in an environment that promotes just that. The room was fantastic, just what every little princess (or not so little anymore) wishes for for her wedding!! Nothing we asked for was too big or small, the family made everything possible for us!
If you are thinking of getting married in a truly special place, look no further. Thank you all again for our amazing...
