Came here today on a warm September 2022 weekday afternoon with a friend and out four kids ages 6,5,3,2 years. We parked at Parkplatz langenbach, despite our best efforts to find somewhere along L482 that was less of a walk, as the caves are really quite close to that road, just a bit down a hill. Anyway, we parked and got out my double stroller for the younger two and the older two walked. The way was minimally marked but we knew the direction we had to take and supplemented with Google maps and Komoot. The path was mostly flat (a few small hills here and there), mostly sunny (though the caves are well shaded), and entirely stroller friendly until you go up the path into the caves. Once you walk (mostly straight) for2km, you arrive at an informational sign about the caves, a bench, and a small water fountain, at which point if you look up the hill you will see the caves. There are a few different trails from that point to get into lower caves and the upper caves, but since the caves are always in sight, it is easy enough to figure out where to go. There are two levels of picnic tables as you ascend to each of the caves. The caves are quite large, though not so deep that you can’t see the opening from any point, at least as far as we explored, nor did we see any tunnels going deeper. It is dark enough that it is wise to have a flashlight or have lamp while in the deepest portion of the cave to ensure a good footing, especially as the floors of each are wet due to the spring exiting the upper cave. The entire and never, including a picnic at the base of the caves, took about three hours. We explored the caves for about 30-60 minutes and the walk took about 45 min each way walking at the kids’ pace With freaking stops to pick flowers and rocks. There is a neat bunker-type building early on in the walk, as well as a pasture with horses in it and a pond. The very beginning of the walk walks alongside some homes, which we tried to be mindful of with regards to noise level. We saw very few other people, about three other groups, none of them linger long. If you came from a different direction, confirming our belief that there must be another way to access it from the other direction. Overall, this hike it was a great experience, for young and old alike, and more than manageable for a stroller or children who can walk for 45 minutes straight on a flat path. The ascent from the path to the caves is a little steep, and not terribly well-maintained, so be very careful and wear good shoes and watch young children going up. Definitely bring a snack and water to enjoy and one of the picnic tables alongside the caves as an extra bonus to...
