The tower was very impressive. We were hesitant to go up first as the weather was quite unsteady, D decided to go anyway. Best decision! We didn't have to wait at the entrance and got our tickets there. The staff was really friendly and during the 30 second ride with the elevator up to 232 meters we were told a few interesting facts while watching the ground sink lower and lower through the window placed at once side. Due to the weather conditions there were only four other people up there, which was really great. As we left there came a couple groups with at least 30-40 people - I imagine it to be exhausting, if you had to fight for a look at the scenery. On top there is a nearly 360 degree view all around the tower. We couldn't see the alps, but the Burg Hohenzollern, Rottweil, a couple of villages around and the lovely fields and hills. It was stunning. Also you get a flyer with a map to make it easier to spot the places you can see from the top. The glass wall around the edge is very high. I am not afraid of heights anyway, but it felt very safe. Back inside there is a giant screen, explaining a few technical details of how the tower was built and the different elevators tested there, which was way more interesting than I expected it to be ;) the ride back down was just as short and had the funny feeling of a roller coaster the first couple of seconds due to the speed you go down. Leaving your bag at the foyer is free. Definitely recommended! Also: if you visit Rottweil: Just walk to the tower :) it is a lovely stroll about 30 min, or, if you want to extend it, you can also walk over the fields and get a few beautiful views...
Read moredo not go there unless you plan to wait in line for 2 hrs to get in!! it does not matter if you have pre-reserved, prepaid tickets, you still wait in line with everybody else who happens to show up because of nice weather or whatever reason, they sell tickets as many as they can, regardless of the fact that they can not handle such big crowds. i was there today with my elderly parents and they almost broke down standing for so long, but since we had driven far to get here, we did not want to come again on another day. so we waited for 2 full hours to get up there ... only to discover that once we were on top, there was already another long line to get down again - and not one chair to sit and wait. very badly organized! the least they could do is put up some benches, give out numbered tickets and sell drinks somewhere ... but...
