Ruins of a beautiful castle and an equally beautiful hike through the woods along a well-maintained path.

The nature leading to the castle is very mossy and has several beautiful mushrooms and trees that make you feel as though you’re walking through a medieval fairytale. It felt like all that was missing was a sword and a suit of armor.

Boulders that may have been part of the original structure greet you ask you approach the base of the castle, thick blankets of moss draped over their edges. Trees thin until the castle is revealed in its entirety.

As with most castles in Bavaria, this one was built atop a large hill that allows for amazing views of the countryside.

Be careful of the steep ascent to the top if you or a party member have mobility issues. The top is cramped and the climb/descent is extremely daunting.

This is a must-see for anyone who wants to see the amazing ruins across the country. It’s...

My family hiked to the castle ruins. It was a nice hike. The castle ruins looks REALLY rundown, and most of the stairs you climb up are steep and a little scary because of how old they are. But the view from the top is nice. There are boards placed on the walls that have info of history and a pavilion that has lots of pictures from the past. You could spend a good half and hour or more there looking at all the elements of the castle. We got lost hiking back to our vehicle, so it would be nice to have more signs directing us. It was a nice family outing for a...

Lovely place for hiking, bicycling and dog walking. There’s an amazing castle you can sit down and eat lunch. The hike trails are very straightforward and it’s pretty safe. The little restaurant up there was nice and the people around here were friendly. Bring some cold weather clothing when fall season comes because it gets chilly. You will see horses, moose, dogs and deers. Free to enter. No need to buy tickets.

A little bit of a walk from the parking area on a gravel road. It was rough in the 33°C (91°F) heat of August with no breeze. The wooden stairs up the castle were a little rickety and some overgrowth on the trails around the castle. But the view from the top was stunning and it was well worth the trip! I would suggest going when the weather is a little cooler and don't forget to check out the statue in the back.
