I took about 3hrs from the parking lot in Phaben using the off road trails all the way to tower and using the main road/trail on the way back. It might be less for more experienced hikers. BEAUTIFUL! We hiked fall, so the color and the view were amazing. From the tower you can a nice 360 view around the forest and the other towns with a clear weather.

This lookout tower offers free access and features metal stairs. At the top, there is a spacious area with fantastic views in all directions. There is also a seating area at the base of the tower. Highly recommended!

Der Oberpfalzturm. Als Kind eine schier unendliche Reise über Stock und Stein, durch Gebüsch und Geäst, ein Labyrinth aus Kreuzungen und Abzweigungen. Kein Ort der Welt war so weit entfernt, so unnahbar wie dieser imposante Holzturm, der dort am weit entfernten Horizont gerade so über die Baumwipfel ragte. Viele Geschichten wurden erzählt, Mythen und Angst verbreitet: "dort oben, da endet die Welt!" Viele Jahre später stehe ich nun jährlich mindestens einmal am Fuße des Turms, blicke nach oben und fühle mich wieder in Kindesschuhe versetzt. Der Oberpfalzturm. Das Symbol meiner Kindheit und wohl der wichtigste Bezugspunkt im Steinwald.
