It was nice. I liked it, but I'm a fan of speleology. Of note: they "open" at 1500 and the first tour starts at 1545. Then, they close at 1700. So yeah, get there then with that in mind. The tour is about an hour long. Granted I came to the kristallhöhle in the late shoulder season, maybe they have different hours during the summer. I don't know for sure but they probably do. It is a pretty cool crevasse cave with a ton of history but its also pretty small. Also, the museum is just a rock collection. If you like rock collections, cool. I wouldn't go to Germany just to see it is what I'm saying. The restaurant, isn't. The staff is very friendly but going on tours, even ones where it's a small group and they know you don't speak German, they don't care unless you're an Asian tourist...and that is getting old quick.

It is an awesome experience so see the crystal formations, it's a very beautiful cave. A helmet well be given to enter. It has 456 steps beneath and again 450 back.. so need to take care on that. It is quite cold inside so better wear warm clothes and rain coats as the water might be dripping in summers. The cost is 6€ for students and 1€ extra for the photography. A small müseum is also there where they exhibit all the different crystals and a short movie.

It's a long walk down several levels of stairs which doesn't seem so hard on the way down but coming back up is quite the challenge. You might consider stopping a bit short on the trip down if you have heart issues. I do but I went to the bottom. A bad decision on my part. I was able to get to the top with many stops on the way. Also the guide does the tour in German. I was with others who would interpret for me. Overall it was quite an adventure.

I was really glad a friend who lives in the area suggested this place to visit on a particularly hot summer day. It was certainly quite cool down in this deep cavern, though also humid. The walk down was long and interesting and pleasant, but coming back up I was definitely feeling my age!
