Schwarzes Wasser — Attraction in Wesel

On a beautiful day, we took a long walk northwest of Wesel. "Schwarzes Wasser" (Black Water) was one of the special spots on our walk. But you can also plan a short visit to this nature reserve, part of the Hohe Mark Nature Park. There's a parking lot nearby, and from there it's a short walk to the lake. You're in a peat bog here. The name "Schwarzes Wasser" (Black Water) refers to the dark color of the water, typical of peat bogs. Fortunately, this nature reserve is receiving increasing attention. A friendly man from the nearby village of Flüren told me about the history of this area. In the past, people used to swim and skate there. But now the entire shoreline is closed to the public. However, from the walking path around the lake, you have a beautiful view. Furthermore, not so long ago, many conifers were removed from the vicinity of the lake because, firstly, they don't belong there at all and, secondly, they extracted far too much water from the area, causing the lake to dry up more easily. Walking around this area, you'll discover the beauty of nature. There are also several information boards along the hiking and cycling path. Incidentally, we walked a long route including the "Hirschkäferroute," "Großes Veen," the "Moorerlebnisweg," then "Schwarzes Wasser," and finally towards "Schloss Diersfordt." Das Schwarze Wasser ist ein Heideweiher bei Wesel. Sein Name soll auf die oftmals braunschwarze Färbung des Gewässers zurückgehen. Vermutlich handelt es sich um eine nach der Eiszeit entstandene, abflusslose Ausblasungswanne, die sich später mit nährstoffarmem Wasser füllte.

Die Ausdehnung des Sees beträgt etwa 400 × 120 Meter, die Tiefe bis zu 140 cm. Die Wasseroberfläche ist rund 2,5 ha groß.

Der Weiher ist von Dünen umgeben, auf denen Kiefern, Eichen und Birken wachsen. Auch Heideflächen kommen vor. Der Weiher enthielt früher zahlreiche botanische Kostbarkeiten, zu denen die Wasser-Lobelie gehörte. Ihr Vorkommen ist alkerdings leider seit Jahren erloschen. Bemerkenswert ist das Vorkommen des Froschkrauts. Das Gebiet steht daher als FFH-Gebiet Schwarzes Wasser unter Naturschutz. Rund um den Weiher führt ein rund 2,6 km langer Naturerlebnisweg...

Am gestrigen Sonntag war ich hier mit meinen beiden Kindern spazieren. Wir waren hier zum ersten Mal und es hat uns richtig gut gefallen. Dieser Ort ist eine schöne kleine Oase zum Entspannen und Abschalten. Zudem ist der Rundweg auch mit dem Kinderwagen machbar. Es gibt Tafeln, die über die Vegetation und Tierwelt informieren. Zusätzlich gibt es auch Sitzmöglichkeiten, die zum Verweilen einladen.
