The Sieg waterfall near Schladern is North Rhine-Westphalia's largest waterfall, which was created in the course of the construction of the railway from Cologne to Gießen in 1857 and 1858. The loops that the Sieg has drawn through the idyllic landscape to this day presented the engineers with a number of problems. They were resolved through energetic interventions in nature.
They blew away pieces of a mountain, gave the river a new course. The original Siegschleife was shut down and partially filled in for the railway line. In order to compensate for the gradient, the waterfall was finally created, which is admired by visitors today as a "natural spectacle".
The waterfall pours down over a width of 84 meters in several steps over four meters.
It is particularly impressive at high tide..
The victory case is a waterfall of victory in Schladern in the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Windeck . At a width of 84 m, the water falls about 6 m deep. In the panorama view below, the Sieg flows in from the south. In the past, the riverbed continued to the north. Since the breakthrough, it has been turning west.

The waterfall was created between 1857 and 1859 during the construction of the Deutz-Gießener Railway . In addition, the victory was straightened several times. The loop, which also flowed directly below Windeck Castle , fell largely dry as a result of the breakthrough. The Elmore's works , specializing in electroplating, use hydropower and provided also Schladern with electric current. In 1995 the company was sold to Kabelmetal (now KM Europa Metal ). Since 2006 a new investor has taken over the old factory halls. The hydropower plant is still in operation. In 2007 a canoe died here after being pushed under the water...
