Fort San Sebastian is a historic Portuguese fort located in Shama, a fishing community in Ghana's Western Region. The fort was built between 1520 and 1526. It showcases Portuguese military architecture with a triangular shape, moat, and bastions at the corners. Its stone walls have embrasures for cannons, and they feature a central courtyard and chapel.The fort was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979, recognizing its historical significance Fort San Sebastian is a testament to European trade, colonization, and exploitation in the region. It's also the final resting place of Anton Wilhelm Amo, the first black European university professor. The fort has a view of the surrounding village and the sea ( which was unfortunately muddled)

Read moreUnlike a lot of other historical sites there was sadly no soop vendors here. For some reason, there was hungry people during the day and not just night, also unlike other historical sites. Because the hungry were causing problems I sadly had to go back down from the fort into the town and to the shore. In order to get down to the beach and then to the rowboat awaiting to take me back to my cruise someone had to operate the manual lift. The lift operator lowered me down and then tried to jump down himself. He sadly broke his legs due to his non-graceful landing. I hopped on the rowboat and got rowed back to my cruise ship.
