National Glypthotheque — Attraction in Athens

A lovely little museum with wonderful 19th and 20th century classic and contemporary sculptures, situated in a pretty open heath (old barracks, once upon a time). Not much tree cover so come here on a cloudy day! Very easy to get to from Katehaki metro (13 min. walk) or come by car, there is ample parking space. Warming! The parking entrance is not shown on Google maps! From Leof. Mesogeion turn into Kanellopoulou and drive South for 900m. At the traffic light turn right into the unnamed road. 150m on, you will see a half-open gate on your right. This is the Glyptotheque's car park! Thankfully, there is a (not very visible).sign. This is not the main building of the gallery, which is under renovation. The main building houses the nineteenth and twentieth century sculpture collection. While the paintings occupy the facing building. The sculptures are more interesting. As they can only display a small part of the paintings you do not get a good overview of what is actually in the collection. I was the only visitor when I arrived and ended up having 3 staff...

Amazing museum, literally a hidden gem in Goudi park, right next to Mesogeion Avenue, situated in an old, high ceiling, renovated army building, inspiring, filled with statues and sculptures from different eras, artists (mainly Greek artists) and genres!
