The place was seriously fascinating. It is so interesting to see how "mother nature" can create such a deep and somewhat scary cave. It was truly something else, definitely not something you would normally see on a Greek island. Super cheap tickets also, I remember something like 2 or 4 euros for students/non-students. There were also barely any people in line, so it was like having the cave to ourselves, lol. The tour guide was the absolute best: he offered to do the tour in English, eventhough we were a group of Greeks and Turks and it surely would have been easier for him to do it in Greek. He explained a lot about the cave and gave us a fun tour through the depths of this natural monument. Worth the visit, even if it is just for the cave - although I would recommend visiting the towns of Olimpi and Mesta, which is basically right there. On the way to these places (assuming you are starting from the city center of Chios) you can even visit the famous Masticha Museum, so you can definitely make a day of it! 10/10 (or on Google 5/5, lol) would recommend and even do again whenever I might find myself...
Read moreIt is unfortunate what has happened to this cave. I have visited 5+ times over the last 10 years and can only assume that it is now under new management. It is a silent walk through the cave in the dark. No tour. The “guide” (man holding a flashlight) was incredibly rude and could care less about the masterpiece of history he is so privileged to walk through. I hope someone else takes over, or learns about the magic of this cave because its history is impressive and they have truly done it a major disservice. They made us wait 30+ minutes and crammed us into the cave with way too large of a group.
In response: What exactly about a silent, dark tour crammed with 30+ people is protecting the cave? I brought along 10 of my friends who were all equally disappointed that day - one of which also left a negative review about their experience. A true tragedy and lack of...
Read moreIf you are visiting Chios you cannot miss going to Olimpi’s Cave! Both George/Giorgos and John/Giannis were amazing hosts and they gave us such a warm welcome. George took us inside the cave for a very explanatory tour about the formation of stalactites and stalagmites. He also described the discovery of the cave and the different characters that can be found (yes, like when you find forms in the clouds) you can see different animals, objects and people in these rocks. Just let your imagination play and take lots of pictures with no flash tho!
Lastly, they both spoke a very clear and fluid English that was easy to understand so don’t be afraid to go if you don’t speak Greek. We strongly recommend this tour and we hope to...
