We walked from Vathy to Gidaki Beach. This is definitely a hike. Many people are reporting this as a 40-minute walk. However, with all the steep roads, climbing, and watching put for cars in the road, it took us 1 hour and 15 minutes there and 1 hour 45 to get back. From Skinos Beach, it is also a hike to get to Gidaki Beach but also not an easy walk as well- about 20- 30 minutes. There are only 3-5 parking spots at Skinos Beach as reported- you could also park in the town before, which is much bigger and hike. Bring plenty of water, a towel for your sweat and enjoy. If adventures aren't your thing, pick up a water taxi in Vathy for 15 Euros both ways, once a day, from 11 am to 3pm. Once you reach Gidaki, it truly is a magnificent view. Water shoes are recommended. There are also sunbeds and umbrellas you could rent for 12 Euros and a small cafe.

This beach is accessible primarily by boat, but there’s also a footpath you can take from Skinos beach which takes about 20 minutes. The walk is very pretty and easy enough - we managed in flip flops! The advantage of arriving on foot is being able to stay as long as you like - the boats that come only stay about 30 minutes so if you get there early you have most of the beach to yourself! The beach is pristine and the water is like a swimming pool. This was our favourite beach on both Ithaca and Kefalonia. There’s a bar which opened around midday serving cold drinks, alcohol, and a simple menu of burgers/hot dogs etc.

Gidaki beach is the pearl of Ithaca with pearly blue and transparent sea. The beach is made of small stones on the shore and in the water. There is only one bar and 30 sunbeds on the beach, which are far enough away to enjoy privacy. Prices are not high. Most of the beach is not covered with sunbeds. The best way to get to the beach is by boat or ship, but you can also get there by car and then on foot. Quite long steps lead to the beach itself. Experiencing and enjoying the crystal sea is worth every effort.

We took the ferry from Vathi - walking or swimming didn’t seem realistic :-) There were sunbeds (€15) available at 12:00 in August but if you want a subbed I imagine you need to get to Gidaki earlier on busy days. It is really beautiful, pebbly like most beaches on this cost but with some sand at the back our children enjoyed building castles with. There’s a bar serving snacks and drinks but if you want a bigger lunch bring food. It get deep quick quickly, so there’s only a small strip of sea the right depth for toddlers - still our little one enjoyed it and we loved it for the quite, clear, turquoise water. There’s natural shade at the back of the beach and more so in the afternoon. Seemed very popular with yachts, who filled up the south end of the beach when we were there but left plenty of space for swimmers and view of the mainland. Overall I thoroughly recommend this beach, and if you don’t have a boat of by our own the ferry ride is...

Pebbly beach with clear Turquoise water, easier to go in and out of the water compared to.other beaches in Ithaki. Problem is that easier access is by a small boat that costs 15 euro per person there and back. When you get there, people are rushing to find an umbrella for shade which costs 15 euros offering nothing at all, no toilet, running water or even an ashtray so that smokers leave it clean.( By the way, since you're paying this boat to.get there, they should make sure there's enough space for the people they are taking there). Very expensive beach bar with poor choice of food and long wait,(broken coffee machine as well, when we went). Between the poor facilities, and service, and the 75 euro cost for 2 people, (boat trip, beach umbrella and small snack),was it worth it? Not by...
