Heaven on Earth. But read. The welcoming was disappointing. A guy made us park for 8 euros 2 km before the 400 steps stair that takes you down to the beach, telling us there was no place further to park. So we parked since he really wouldnt let us go further. Also he told us not to take anything with us because it would be a long walk. But we had planned to spend the whole day there and camp on the beach with tent umbrella fridge so we took them with us anyways...we parked and as we walked ahead we saw the other parkings were all full. We walk a bit and we see a white iron gate you can cross only by foot and not by car. A bit weird for a public beach. Also there was no official government sign on it. So we went past the gate and we walked all the way down the mountain with all our camping gear, under the sun for 2km. It was exhausting. We were walking on an actual paved road, with signals, so it felt weird we could not go by car. And at the end of it, soon before the stair, there were car parkings. Not many but there were some. Soon before the stair there is a bar where you can buy a Monster drink can for the modest sum of 5 euros with cash and 6 euros by card.......of course we wanted it after all that crossfit session! Then we went down the stairs and finally on the beach. As soon you get on the sand you can find umbrellas and sunbeds for rent 5+5 euros. The beach itself is unbelievable. We forgot about the rest and enjoyed it till very late. We were the last ones to go, at about 9 PM. We walked uphill this time, ending up in a new exhausting hike. My butt was bursting. We saw the guys closing the bar, and after 30 minutes, when we had arrived back to the gate, they came in 2 cars, opened the gate and left it open. It looked like they managed that gate. At the moment I did not care very much, I am young, I was on holiday with my partner and all that effort paid off because this place is unreal, so I focused on the bright side...and I accepted this blackmail. But The government should really do something about it. They force you to pay for parking, walk miles and probably you dont wanna smash your back and heart carrying umbrellas and coolbag, so you pay unreasonable prices for food and drink once you get breathless to the bottom and since it is hot as hell you pay for umbrellas and sunbeds. All this for a place which is supposed to be 'public'. Those people should be ashamed of themselves for taking away from you the right of getting to a place easily and for free. Of course once you have travelled till there you do not give up but what if my granny wants to go? She cant bc you cant make an old person walk for miles under the sun with 40C degrees. Build a better job instead of...
Read moreI gave it 5 stars - it's an amazing part of the island. When you look at it from above, water looks like blue coton candy in so many different shades of blue and white marble beach.
I will tell you my experience hopping it will help you:
-when you start driving up on the mountain, there is a sign that says it's your own responsibility if you choose to drive there. Asphalt is great, yet narrow and there is a high chance that rocks may fall. Choose sunny days with no chances of rain as the water from the mountain will bring rocks on the road.
-there is parking whe you get to the beach. We paid 10 euros which kinda makes sense as there are people there who help organizing the space and make sure you don't get stuck.
-after you park you will have another asphalted road that is closed for cars access. I suppose is for emergency access and provisions for the shops. You will walk for 1km on 15% inclination downhill through sun(if you have a sunny day of course).
-at the end of the 1km, there is a shop that has beach stuff, beach shoes, umbrellas etc. A bit further down there is a tavern where you can get food/drinks.
-after the tavern you have THE stairs (cries out loud) - 400 stairs to be more exact. They have been renovated after the previous ones have been destroyed in an earthquake. Rocks fall here as well, so be careful.
-when you get down, your legs will be shaking. You have one more chance to buy water from some kjnd people who have water, beer and they rent umbrellas.
-I found the water to be quite furious, pulling strongly from the shore so I decided not to go firther than 1m away.
My personal suggestion: -have sun hat -have water don't go with dogs make sure you take all of the above into account when traveling with kids, elder members of the family, cardiac problems (I am 30 with no cardiac problems and quite fit and I felt like dying) -be aware that any medical emergency will require a long waiting...
Read moreWe have reached to the beach around 9am and were the fifth car in the whole parking lot so we parked directly next to the gate. Except some areas where it is hard for two cars to fit, road was pretty ok until the parking area. Parking is 10 euros for the full day (04.09.2022). As mentioned in the previous comments, you have to walk 1.3km on an asphalted road and take 400 steps after you park the car. When you reach the beach, there is a place from which you can rent umbrellas but it was not even open yet when we were there. Probably it is due to whole beach being in shadow until 11am. We stayed on the right side of the beach which was pretty empty the whole day. The beach has pebbles but there are some spots where you can find sand so you can put your stuff and sit more comfortable. And obviously, there is no toilet facility on the beach :) The sea: in the morning, it was wavy but starting from 11:30-12, it got calmer and actually when we were leaving (16:45) it was in its best shape. So climbing back... It is hard. You should save some water for sure. Worst case, you can buy from the cafe after taking the steps which you will pay a lot for it but you definitely need water especially when you are going back and if it is sunny. It took us 45 minutes to reach the parking lot with about 6-7 breaks. There were some shades on the road so we aimed them as pit stops and sat on the barriers to recharge. When we left, we saw that parking lot was full and some cars parked on the road. I think overall the beach and the sea is a must to...
