On our last day of vacation with my girlfriend (25th of august 2023), we met up with 2 of our friends that came on our last day to start their holidays in Aigina. I wasn't really keen on the idea of going to Moni because we were low on money and i couldn't be bothered to head to the beach last day on another island but oh well they persuaded me and we went there.
In order to get there, you need to get a boat taxi from the port of Aigina, and it costs 11€ to go there and another 11€ to come back. In total, 22€ to go and back which to be honest, it's a bit much. If you are in Perdika, it's i think 5€ to go and another 5€, not exactly sure but these are the prices as of 25th of august (the date is when we purchased the tickets at the port of Aigina). If I'm correct, there is a boat every hour to go and come back, i think. The whole boat trip was around 35 mins.
First impressions, the beach was packed with people and animals! Yes, animals. There are deers and peacocks everywhere on the island! Well, mostly up to the little hill at the top, and they roam on their own. There are signs to not feed the animals, but well, everyone was feeding them :/ . Of course, people gave them water as well, so it wasn't plain food.
We stayed there for 3 hours and we took the free sunbeds from the stack in the middle and we sat there under some trees. The prices for the sunbeds with the umbrellas at the front range i think from 12€, 18€ and 20€.
First impressions of the water, it was super clear, clystar clear, and I'm not exaggerating but that's how it legit was and still is. I don't think I saw any filth or debris anywhere in the water, and we were impressed by how clean it was!
We didn't purchase anything on the beach bar because we knew they probably had ourageous prices, so we just drank the water we had.
Overall, the water was and is clean, and i will for sure come...
Read moreA beautiful tranquil cove, rocky beach. The pine woods were amazing, with deer and peacocks roaming free.
The sea is crystal clear and pure, with deep purple sea urchins a signifier of this. You can walk into the sea without worry, they are 3-5m out from shore.
The island is peaceful and not too busy. Noise was mostly circadas and water lapping at the rocky coastline along with the rustling of the straw umbrella
There is a beach bar and rentable sunbeds with straw umbrellas, there are also 2 premium loungers (they call them "VIP lounge"), these were great and private. For €40 for the entire day.
There was however, bird poop on the loungers, which we had to clean. This should have been checked beforehand.
The staff here were a bit cold while serving, as if buying their refreshments was a bother to them. This really irked me. This was my first experience of this in Greece, everyone is so warm.
€4 for a 330ml greek lager can (ice cold), €4 toast (cheese + ham) snack, €5 strawberry slushie
A small amount of rubbish around the sunbeds wasn't a good look either, but wasn't too bad. The bar music wasn't loud at all, a good thing.
We took the boat from the Aegina town harbour, which cost €40 for 2 people return.
Overall, we enjoyed our time at the beach, spent all day swimming, exploring the rocky coastline in the sea, find urchins and fish, and chilling on the lounger. The nature and beauty outweighs the poor...
Read moreWe visited Moni Island as part of a day trip to Aegina (from Athens) . In the off season (starting in October) boats only go to Moni from Perdika port and not from the main port. You have to get a taxi to Perdika which takes about 20 minutes and costs around 15 euros. There is a boat going to Moni from perdika every hour, this takes about 10 minutes. On arrival to moni you will see lots of peacocks, they are friendly and you can feed and take pictures with them. There are also lots of deer that can be found just a short walk into the 'forest'. We spent an hour at moni just exploring and looking at the animals, you could definitely stay for longer if planning to swim and sunbathe but there isn't much else to see/do. Definitely worth a visit if you are already in Aegina but I wouldn't plan your whole trip around Moni. We didn't see the beach bar serving food or playing music (most likely because it was off-season) so bring any snack, drinks or food for...
