A very large and beautiful fort located at the entrance to the island. Although there are no history panels, I found valuable information from a custodian located in the building near the entrance. It is a true complex, and more recent studies have found evidence of an ancient construction, long before the construction of the Sicilian Orsini at 1300. The castle was under the control of the Venetians, the French or the Turks, as were the vicissitudes of history. Destroyed by a huge fire in 1880, it ended up being bombed by Italians in World War II. An attraction is even the castle walls, which, in their thickness, allowed the construction of a church in the fifteenth century.

Timetable for the bridge oppening times is online and is well worth seeing. Across the road is a tree covered truck stop for a cooling beer....
Read moreDriving back to the airport from Nidri we drove past the castle ruins. Because I've already seen plenty of those around the Europe this time I skipped it. Passing by though, yet again my eyes made a notice of a massive blue EU information board inscribed with 4 mln euros of investment. The first thing that came to my mind is what is the plan of castle's reconstruction and what amount of progress has already been done. From the reviews I've read that making photos from inside of ruins is disallowed, why is that? Is this another EU money scam? Can anyone put some light on the case as it's seems...
