One of the castles built by Ali Pasha, with a unique view to the Ionian sea, the Ambracian gulf and Lefkas.
Before the construction of the castle, there was a muslim monastery ther, nuilt in 1668. For this reason the name of the place was Teke.
The castle was built in 1806 by Ali Pasha. The objective was to facilitate Ali’s attack against the island of Lefkas.
The plans of Ali were canceled in July 1807, when the French occupied the Ionian islands, after a treaty with the Russians.
Soon after that, Ali pasha gave the castle to the family of Grivas, ergo the name of the castle.

Read more?Ottoman? Ruined castle. Left in a ruined state, this fortification is open 24 hours and is free. If coming from Lefkada don't take the first left after the main road (a dirty track) driver around the front of the castle and there's a small area to park off the road on the left. Walk up the dirt path, not the concrete one and 2 mins up a slope, and you are there. This is just a ruin, so no amenities, or safety barriers, etc. It's interesting to visit as a piece of free, sadly neglected history. Some nice views...
