Great wine tasting experience at Titakis Winery

We did a wine tasting and tour at Titakis with our family of 7, and we learned so much – and enjoyed every moment!

Sure, wine tasting is always fun 😉 but what really made this visit special was the interesting and informative explanation throughout the tour. The tasting included a variety of wines from the winery, each paired with small bites to help explore which combinations you enjoy most – and which less. It really showed how personal taste can be, especially when it comes to food and wine.

We were warmly welcomed and guided by a Dutch-speaking host, which made the experience even more enjoyable and relaxed.

Also worth mentioning: the winery dog, Psyid 🐶, gave us a warm welcome too and came by now and then to check if everything was still okay 😉. Of course, this was only after kindly checking with us first if we were comfortable with dogs – but coming from a dog-loving family, that was no problem at all.

After the tasting, there was the option to buy wine and other local products, but there was absolutely no pressure to do so. Naturally, we couldn’t resist and brought home some delicious bottles!

We had a fabulous wine pairing lunch at The Titakis Winery. I have expected a large crowd but when we arrived, Georgia was already waiting for us and told us we are her only visitors for lunch today. I would think they would have cancelled my booking but she told me it was not uncommon for them to host only a small group. We had a truly VVIP treatment with being the only visitors. Everyone we met was as warm and welcoming as Georgia. Even Maria Titakis, the owner I’d been corresponding with, came by personally to greet us. Georgia is a oenologist. Not only is she knowledgeable in the sciences and art of wine making, she is also very passionate in sharing her knowledge. We learned so much from her. Lunch was excellent. Georgia explained not only the wine but each dishes with details. She also is a good hostess who gave us time and privacy to enjoy each course at our own pace. Georgia was extremely kind. We missed our bus back to Heraklion. She offered to give us a ride 😍. Excellent...

We really loved our visit to Titakis winery. Upon arriving our small group was met by Eleni our guide who was an amazing host. The structure of the tour is very well put together starting in the display vineyards where you learn all about the various grapes grown before moving to the business end of processing and fermentation. At each stage Eleni's explanations were clear and always asking for our input or questions. The best bit of course is always the tasting which was very well delivered with 5 wines on offer which we tried with and without food to check the difference. As wine tastings go it was one of the best thought out and informative I have ever done. We also got to try their Raki at the end. This was followed by a visit to the shop where you buy all the wines and much more. By the end we were all a little merry!!! Thanks Eleni for a great tour and good luck...
