This monastery, built by a Venetian family in the 17th century, is located in the middle of a natural area surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. We easily reached this quiet, beautiful place by hitchhiking from the center of Chania. At the last stage of our journey, it was very pleasant to walk the long and narrow path, shaded by trees, leading to the entrance of the Monastery. The architectural structure of the monastery is so compatible with the natural environment that you realize that a nice visit awaits you as soon as you see it. This monastery, which I think is very well preserved, is actually a large complex. Within this four-sided complex, there are various sections from the wine cellar to the priest's cells, from an old olive mill to a library with rare books. When you enter through the main entrance, I am sure you will love the atmosphere of the courtyard surrounding it, as you see the church in front of you. It was very nice to walk around the courtyard, examine the architecture of the monastery and have our cat and bird friends accompany us while doing this. I should also mention that the monastery also has a well-preserved and lively farm that produces olive oil, wine, honey, vinegar and olive oil soap. You can find these products, which are sold with the name of the monastery, in the markets in the region.

The whitewashed walls and well-maintained courtyards provide a peaceful atmosphere for reflection and contemplation. The stunning frescoes and religious artifacts showcased the incredible craftsmanship and devotion that went into the monastery's creation. The surrounding gardens, with their lush greenery and fragrant flowers, added to the overall sense of tranquility. The monastery's location offers breathtaking views of the Cretan countryside and the sea in the distance, which only added to the sense of connection with nature and the divine. In summary, the Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) Tzagaroli Monastery is a place of exceptional beauty and deep spiritual significance. The Greek Orthodox Monastery of Agia Triada (17th century) is located in the middle of the Akrotiri peninsula east of Chania. It is a beautiful complex and very photogenic. The sober, wide facade has a theatrical entrance with a wide staircase to a striking portal with Ionic and Corinthian pillars and a high bell tower above it. Through the gate you enter a large courtyard dominated by a church with a Byzantine cruciform plan, with an elegant facade with Doric and Corinthian columns and three striking round domes on the roof. Inside the church you can see, among other things, 17th century altars. You can stroll around in and around the church, on the roof of the church and you can also climb the entrance gate of the monastery opposite the church. Around the church you can admire the monastery and the church from all sides along arcades and lots of greenery. What is striking here are the many plants and the beautiful flowers that make the building even more beautiful than it already is. On the southern side of the church you will find the small monastery museum and a very good museum shop with, among other things, wine, olive oil, vinegar, raki, honey and soap from their own organic production.

THIS REVIEW IS FOR TOURISTS WONDERING WHETHER IT'S WORTH VISITING OR NOT Bottom line is, IT'S WORTH IT if you love history and see the mixed architecture between Roman and Turkish influence on this island. Please mind that appropriate clothes will be necessary to enter the Monastery. I personally came here by a cruise ship, and we only had around 7 hours to explore the island. Upon entering through port of Souda, I rented a car and directly went here. Road using car was easy to navigate. At first look, you will notice the unique combination between a dome, typically used in most mosque, and the beautiful catholic church inside. The crash of both cultures really amazed me. Entering the Monastery, you can feel a peaceful ambience, where you can pray as well. Beside the Monastery was a museum which holds the original scripts of the crusaders which went to this island. Really interesting to see and to understand the history of this beautiful island.

Hands down the most beautiful monastery I have ever seen. It's not very big but it's a place that breathes peace and tranquility. The plants and flower on the inner courts are just stunning. Make sure to visit the monastery around the times when the monks are having a service. You can join the service, where the monks start to chant, just be quiet and respectful (!) and enjoy the service. You can go to the rooftops of some buidings where the views over the gardens and fields are amazing. The monks also have a small shop where you can buy the self made products like olive oil. There is also a small museum that is worth a visit. The entrance fee is small, and even if it wasn't , it's more than worthwhile! If you haven't visited this monastry you are missing out on something you'll never forget, it's a must-see!
