Wow... Just wow! The most amazing beach on the east side of crete. By far my favorite.
First off, getting to this beach is not easy. You can get there either by car or bus (i think, due to the amount of people waiting)
Second, there are no facilities here due to the remote nature of the beach. So bring enough food/drinks.
The road to the beach is tricky by car, you'll have drive up/down a steep serpentine road. Personally i found it easy but it might scare some of you. My passenger was too scared to look as we drove down the road, the chicken haha.
There isn't really a parking lot there, so just park your car wherever you see fit.
So, hiking down towards the beach. There are actually 2 roads that go down. 1 hike that can be quite challenging and an easier road.
After the parked cars, in the middle, you'll find a sign, or a memorial i think. If you want to take the challenging hike, go left and for the easy hike go right.
We took the left hike (we didn't know any better at the time) I see myself as a climbing monkey, so getting down was not difficult, but rather fun. Do please be careful here as you really have to pay attention.
Once you reach the bottom (from the left) you have to walk through some greenery to reach the beach. Which was quite nice. Felt like a mini adventure reaching the beach.
The beach, it is fairly small and won't fit a lot of people. As such it can be full at times. Even when full, the beach didn't feel crowded and not as noisy as you would expect.
The water is extraordinary beautiful. The contrast from white to light blue to dark blue is breathtaking. No beach in crete can compare to this view!
The fun part, due to the nature of the beach, there will be a lot of large waves here. One moment you're standing comfortably in the water the next you're underwater or pushed back. All the people were just having fun in the water. Haven't seen this much lively people in the water in a a while. There is also a diving spot on the right. You can easily climb the rocks, just look at the spots other people are jumping from. The water is deep enough so don't worry much about it. Just don't dive straight down ;)
You have to experience this beach for yourself to grasps its beauty and fun.
Best place I've been to on crete. Most recommended place to visit during your...
Read moreThis beach is worth seeing, but it has A LOT of flaws. •Come here with a friend, wife, boyfriend, but please don’t come here with your children. Why would you do that? Do you like your children at all? There is nothing for your kids on this beach, there is half a meter of shallow water and then it gets deep. Also, the road is dangerous even for you. Come with your kids if they have 18+ years, before that is useless. And be very prepared if you want to come here. •First you need old sneakers or some other shoes but they will be covered in red dust which is hard to clean afterwards. •Then, you need to know that the path that leads to this beach is very scary. It is a 2 way ‘street’ so sometimes you have to wait for others to pass so you can continue this horrific journey. I am not joking, it is super scary. But climbing up is much easier, at least you don’t have to look into the abyss beneath you. •Oh, and parking can be tricky. Parking is super small and gets filled even before 10 am, and pray to god you can find parking in the street, on some closer side. The road is very steep, so when you are leaving, you will have to drive in 1st gear, very slow. •When you eventually get down to the beach, keep in mind that the beach is extremely small. It is good enough for maybe 15-20 people, but here you will find 100+ people ALL THE TIME. And everyone wants to take picture so it is a picture time hell. •Bring umbrellas because the beach is pebbled and it can get very hot very soon. But keep in mind it is windy from time to time. •Try not to eat anything because there are 2 very hungry goats that are not scared of people and that are coming in your face to take away anything that you eat. And if goat is not near you, there are wasps. So think twice, are you really THAT hungry? •But all in all, it is worth seeing and staying here for an hour...
Read more*PLEASE LOOK please for the love of the earth and all things.... PLEASE pack out what you pack in. There are trash bins in the parking lot it just takes a LITTLE bit of looking to find them. The tampons you throw take DECADES and the plastic you leave takes HUNDREDS of years to break down iF EVER. Please help keep this area pristine for ourselves and foe the future of the planet. If you don't care about the earth who will? The goat mafia does not mess around- I wouldn't even suggest bringing food at all to this beach, they beg and start walking on your stuff as soon as you break out a snack, they are aggressive (albeit cute) and will go into your belongings to get your snacks. If they do this, it's STILL your responsibility to get YOUR trash. The amount of trash I picked up was disgusting. Greek people and tourists alike NEED TO DO BETTER. STOP LITTERING. All this being said, it is a gorgeous, yet packed with tourists, swimming spot. I absolutely loved it despite the trash and am giving it a 1 star because of the sheer amount of litter all throughout the path down and on the valley floor.... as well as to hopefully get the attention of the people attending this area. Also, be forewarned, if you're looking for a chill, quiet place to relax with your family- this is not the place. The goats literally gang up on someone that has snacks and walk all over your stuff. There are people packed and playing music loudly. Only go if you're prepared to deal w...
