Samos Wine Museum is definitely inescapable, since the Muscat wine from Samos is one of the products that people from Samos are the most proud of.
Wine was for the Ancient Greek the drink of the Gods, still today the Greek wine is for the Greeks the most popular drink. The Island of Samos has a remarkable wine heritage, stretching back perhaps as far as 1200 BC.
The Muscat wine Samos, with a guaranteed appellation of origin, is produced from the grapes bearing the same name, cultivated on the slopes of Mount Ambelos, on the traditional island tiered terraces up to an altitude of 900m. The aromas of the Samos Muscat wines are elegant, rich and unique. And, of course, we should all experience the most important products from the Island- right? Also, the wines produced here have won multiple international awards so you know you will be in for a treat.
The last but not less important... You have to pay only 2€ to jump inside and taste some of that incredible...
Read moreWe enjoyed our experience at the Wine Museum in Samos Town. It gave an interesting account of the long history of wine making in Samos. We didn't join a tour. However, if you wish to you do need to book in advance. Otherwise, just turn up and wander around. All the exhibits are marked with explanations in English. The entry fee is only 5 euro and included a very generous wine tasting at the end. We were able to sample some excellent Samos wines, including their famous Muscat, Samos Doux. You can buy a bottle at reasonable prices from there. The lady doing the wine tasting was very knowledgeable and friendly. I recommend visiting the Museum if you have an interest in wine and...
Read moreA really nice museum with a lot of information. They also have YouTube videos as a way to get a “guided tour”, but I felt like I got just as much from reading the plaques with information. The tasting of the wines at the end were easy/low maintance - but it don’t necessarily think this is a bad thing (I see some negative reviews for this). I got enough information about the wines, got a good taste, and know what wines I would like to order and buy outside of the museum.
Staff super friendly! I also dropped by a few days later as they have some Samos honey I haven’t been able to find other places.
Highly recommend a visit - it takes 30-60 minutes for the...
