Karteros Canyon — Attraction in Municipality of Heraklion

For sure beautiful, but in April it was not possible to reach it even on foot. The road is blocked by the river not only one time. As the overflooded road is slippery it is not without danger to cross it even on foot, because it is quite deep and the river has quite much power. The quality road has about 1.5km away from the canyon an end. Do not even try to drive further especially if you do not have a 4WD car. You will get stuck and not able to turn back. After that pont the road becomes very heavy und in April is full of with deep mud. Maybe it is not a problem in the Summer, but today it was and there is no any cautionsignal. The Karteros Canyon trail is exceedingly difficult to follow the father south one goes. In the north it is a paved road, which becomes a 4x4 dirt road, which becomes a hiking trail. Very nice place if you like adventures walking paths and beautiful nature sites .the gorge starts at karteros area and ends after some km in the center of Crete . There is a beautiful small church you should visit and a forest of trees that follows all the river at the center of the gorge. No place to buy water here or food so you have to carry some with you.Very nice...
