If you consider 2-inch pebbles sand, then this is a sandy beach. Wear shoes: if the rocks don’t get you, the sea urchins will (see photo). The hotel owns most of the beach and you have to pay exorbitant amounts to dip your toes. There is another, rockier beach to the East, but it seems to be owned by a restaurant, although the fee to use the beach is more reasonable. There is a tiny strip of waterfront that appears to be public although it is probably somebody’s front yard. At least, no one came to scan our credit card. Arthur the owner was very helpful and very nice we enjoyed talking with him. We ate lunch today, the club sandwich was refreshing after having primarily Greek food for the last week. The Greek salad was just as good you can’t go wrong with that order. The Sandy beach is the only one of its kind in hydra and is soft on the feet compared to the rocky coast elsewhere on the island. The sandy part is totally dominated by a luxury hotel full of non-Greeks, there are many boats so it’s like swimming in a Marina, and the open beach space for people who don’t want to get a chair is shaded so there’s not much sun. Leave this beach for rich people who don’t know the difference.
