The Antonis Tritsis Environmental Awareness Park in the western Athenian suburb of Ilion is all set for a second chance. The park was completed in 1996, cost 5 billion drachmas (or around 150 million euros) to develop and covers an area of 110 hectares, or seven times that of the National Garden in central Athens. Bordering the less affluent areas of Ilion, Kamatero and Aghioi Anargyroi, the Antonis Tritsis Park is a green oasis, featuring woods, artificial lakes and plenty of open spaces for kicking around a ball, cycling or just taking in the sun. However, following its brilliant inauguration, the park fell into a state of neglect, having been continually bumped further and further down the funding priority list.

Ο Πύργος της Βασιλίσσης είναι η βασιλική έπαυλη που κατασκευάστηκε στη θέση ενός παλιού πύργου. Το κτίσμα είναι γοτθικού ρυθμού κατ ‘απομίμηση του πύργου Ηochenschwangau στην Βαυαρία όπου γεννήθηκε ο Όθωνας. Τα δύο κτίρια παρά τη σημαντική τους διαφορά σε μέγεθος έχουν πολλά κοινά στοιχεία. Παραμένει άγνωστος ο αρχιτέκτονας του κτιρίου. Πιθανολογείται πως είναι έργο του Φρανσουά Λουί Φλοριμόν Μπουλανζέ ή του Κ. Χάνσεν. Είναι ένα μοναδικό μνημείο της νεογοτθικής αρχιτεκτονικής στην Ελλάδα. Το κτίριο στην Επτάλοφο εγκαινιάστηκε στις 13/25 Αυγούστου του 1854, ημέρα των γενεθλίων του Βασιλιά Λουδοβίκου, πατέρα του Όθωνα. Το κτήμα που με τόση φροντίδα και αγάπη δημιούργησε η Αμαλία δεν φαίνεται να συγκινούσε ιδιαίτερα τον Όθωνα. Μετά την έξωση των βασιλέων, η κυβέρνηση κήρυξε το κτήμα δημόσια περιουσία. Η διαχείρισή του ανατέθηκε στο Υπουργείο Οικονομικών που το παρέδωσε στη συνέχεια στο νέο βασιλέα Γεώργιο. Το 1863 το κτήμα αποδόθηκε και πάλι δια πληρεξουσίου στον Όθωνα. Μετά τον θάνατό του αγοράστηκε από τον βαρώνο Σίνα για να πουληθεί στην οικογένεια Γεωργίου Παχή. Κατόπιν πέρασε στην οικογένεια Σερπιέρη (η κόρη του Γ. Παχή, Λαυρία, παντρεύτηκε τον Φερνάνδο Σερπιέρη). Με νόμο του μεσοπολέμου που απαγόρευε την μεγάλη ακίνητη περιουσία η Οικογένεια Σερπιέρη αναγκάστηκε να παραχωρήσει το μεγαλύτερο μέρος του Κτήματος στο Ελληνικό Δημόσιο και να κρατήσει μόνο 250 στρέμματα μέσα στα οποία βρίσκεται σήμερα και ο Πύργος Βασιλίσσης. Η τεράστια έκταση του Κτήματος αποτελεί σήμερα το Πάρκο Περιβαλλοντικής Ευαισθητοποίησης Αντώνης Τρίτσης. O Πύργος Βασιλίσσης σήμερα ανήκει στην Γεωργοκτηνοτροφική Εμπορική Κτηματική Εταιρία Ιλίου Α.Ε.

Lovely park for exercise or just taking a walk. Plenty of shade and benches for picnics or just hanging out. The ducks and turtles everywhere are lovely. And if you're lucky you may get to see the horses. Not much shade if you're walking, running or biking. Make sure u have water and a hat in the summer. Not sure if or where the bathrooms are. But there are multiple cafes around so that may be your best bet for bathrooms. All in all lovely park.

From where should I begin from? The fitness equipment that is broken for MONTHS and nobody did anything ever about em? Or the lake which is filled with trash and rot which ducks and gooses HAVE TO eat?? The condition is quite terrible... It's a big park, yes. It has many trees, yes. But that doesn't mean that you should dump it like that, with many iron things and broken stuff around. I've seen a kid hit right in fron of me cause of those. He was sent to hospital with broken teeth and broken eyebrow. The sitch is incredible, the negative way. The only thing that saves you from -1000 stars is the green, the size of the park, the security and the shop with these kind employees which HELPED ME when I GOT hurt and I've lost a part of the skin of my hand (2 months passed and it's not fully treated yet). Just... DO SOMETHING. At least for the memory of Antony Tritsis....

Nice big, family friendly park with lakes (not for swimming) and ducks. They have different types of bicycles for renting ranging from regular ones, to the big ones for 4-6 people, small car shaped for the children etc. There was a sign for horse riding as well (I thing in a small fenced area but I'm not sure). Ideal for picnic, pictures and worth visiting. There are coffee shops you can sit for a drink and some good food (you must try the baby potatoes from "ΥΠΟΓΛΥΚΑΙΜΙΕΣ CAFE"). When I visited there was a running event going on. An ideal destination for everybody. Definitely going to...
