The Cave of Lakes is a very beautiful, pleasant, and fascinating place. It has high ceilings and many stalactites that look like giant lamps or pieces of fabric. There is lighting all along the cave, which creates a magical atmosphere. There is a comfortable and safe ramp to walk on, and it’s nice to follow the guide. The tour is given in both Greek and English. Entrance costs €9 for adults and €4.5 for children. The walking path is only 500 meters long, but the experience is impressive. This is one of the best caves we have visited. Everything is clean, well-kept, and organized.
Tours start according to a schedule — a new group begins approximately every 30 minutes. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take a picture of the exact timetable.
Phone cameras are allowed, but using flash is not permitted. In general, with a stabilizer, you can get excellent photos and videos.
Note that the cave is closed on Tuesdays, like many...
Read moreA beautiful cave, tall and narrow with impressive formations, but a rather small tour on it (only 1/4th of it), with very expensive entry fee. Personnel was clueless about caves and the science behind it, unable to provide further information on questions asked, rather continued repeating the "poem" she had learned by heart even on completely unrelated questions. Very rude and rushed the whole 30min tour in roughly 10-15 min (Even frowned upon us asking us rudely to keep walking after taking 30 seconds halt to get our jackets on). We had no time to pause for a second and enjoy the view and photos are not allowed either couse they disturb the bats. (You can buy photos taken from them that didn't disturb the bats...apparently). Impressive cave, but personnel hate their job and life and won't let you enjoy it. Skip it, you ll find better caves in Greece with people actually being happy to...
Read moreI had high hopes for Kastria Cave, but it turned out to be quite disappointing given the effort required to get there.
The journey is a major drawback - about an hour's drive from the main highway through winding mountain roads. For what you get at the end, the travel time simply isn't justified.
Once you arrive, the actual cave experience is surprisingly brief. You're looking at maybe 10 minutes of walking inside, which feels incredibly short after such a long drive. The cave isn't particularly large or impressive compared to other cave systems I've visited.
Overall, I'd recommend skipping this one unless you're already in the immediate area. The combination of the lengthy drive and brief visit makes it hard to recommend. There are much better caves and natural attractions in Greece that offer better value for your time and effort.
Save yourself the trip and visit somewhere...
