Paralia Kato Lakkos — Attraction in Municipality of Karpathos

Objectively as a beach it is super pretty BUT BEWARE! Do NOT go with your car rental anywhere there, besides the main road. The moment the dirt road starts drop your car there. Apparently NO car rental company covers insurance for the car going to that beach because of the dangerous and almost impossible 'to go road', so because all cars get stuff there you will have to pay out of pocket. Also no car insurance or help accepts to come to that beach as it is a liability except one guy on the whole island. Lastly, the dirt road is rocky and muddy so my car got stuck and it was impossible to get it out and that ONE guy (paid 100 euros) came to get me out of there. I was so scared and it was dangerous because at some point even if the car's breaks were not stable , holding down not moving the car, because of its reclining road angle , tiny width of the road and peddles on the floors as well as super duper turns on the road the car could not 'stay' at its position and almost the brakes could not work and almost for 1 meter fell off the cliff.... please do not use the car on this dirt road. Choose to walk a tiny bit...

Went there in october, took a taxi from our hotel to the top of the path. It was about 1.7km walk downhill, took us about 25min. On the way there, there was 3 aggressive dogs barking, but someone drove by and told us that they won't leave their yard.

We wanted to see the cave, which was a bit further away and had to climb over large rocks to get there. The cave was small and due to the current it was a bit scary. The walk back up to the taxi was very hard, we had to have many breaks because my sister had trouble breathing. The walk back up took us about 40min.

At the end of the day the beach was a disappointment but the views on the path were amazing. I'd recommend renting a 4x4 unless you are physically fit and prepared to walk...

Per me la spiaggia più bella in assoluto di Karpathos (e ne ho girate tante!). A circa 20 minuti di macchina da Pigadia in direzione Kira Panagia si prende per "Le ville con vista di lusso". Da questo bivio in poi la strada si fa sterrata ma è facilmente percorribile fino ad un certo punto anche con un'utilitaria. Poi, al primo tornante a sinistra, meglio lasciare la macchina se non è un 4x4 e proseguire a piedi. Sono 15 minuti di discesa (25 per risalire) a tratti soleggiati e a tratti all'ombra dei pini marittimi da percorrere possibilmente con scarpe da trekking o da ginnastica. Arrivati in fondo alla strada ci sono due opzioni: andare a destra verso la parte sud della spiaggia oppure andare a sinistrsa verso la parte nord. La parte sud è meno selvaggia, dotata di ombrelloni e lettini (15€ per un ombrellone e due lettini), è quella più agevole da raggiungere e per questo un po' più frequentata (ma parliamo di 10 persone al 20 di Luglio). è più adatta agli appassionati di snorkeling e di apnea perchè dove finisce iniziano gli scogli, habitat ideale per la fauna marina (ho visto pesci scorpione, calamari, occhiate, aguglie, saraghi, salpe...). La parte nord, invece, non è attrezzata, è un po' più difficoltosa da raggiungere (qualche passaggio sulle pietre ma niente di pericoloso), è molto selvaggia, variegata (a tratti di sassi grossi si alternano tratti di sabbia grossolana), è lunga circa 500 m., ha colori pazzeschi e acque cristalline, è molto silenziosa e riservata. Consiglio di arrivare almeno fino agli scogli alti che dalla spiaggia si buttano in mare perchè formano un piccolo anfratto molto carino al quale si può accedere sia a piedi dalla spiaggia che a nuoto dal mare. Inoltre dalla sommità degli stessi scogli è possibile fare tuffi in sicurezza. Noi abbiamo combinato le due opzioni: abbiamo lasciato zaini e vestiti sotto l'ombrellone facendo base sul lato sud e, dopo esserci rinfrecati in mare, ci siamo diretti solo con scarpette da scogli, costume e occhialini ad esplorare la serie di calette della parte nord. Indispensabile portarsi acqua fresca e frutta perchè non ci sono...
