PLEASE DO NOT FEED BREAD // BITTE FÜTTERT KEIN BROT Actual place review in English will be at the end.
ENGLISH: What the others commenters say is true, there is an old man selling bread. But bread is REALLY bad for these birds. They get zero energy/nutrition from it but it fills their stomache and they eventually starve with a full belly, or get a lung disease if the bread is even slightly moldy. We also did not know this but where lucky that there was an elderly couple there giving away free bags of crushed corn. They informed us about the stubborn old man that keeps selling bread, not caring about actually harming them. See the text in one of our pictures.
If you want to feed the birds (they eat from your hand) and do them a favor, bring a bag of nuts. We were lucky to randomly have a bag of a nut-rasin-mix with us (Peanuts, cashews, rasins, almonds) and the elderly couple told us the birds love that. And oh god they did. While the peacocks did eat the corn we were given, they LOVED the nuts and rasins. My wife was so happy and was even followed by birds trying to get them. She was even approached by "Angel" who promptly ate like half of the nuts. Now, for the actual review:
This is a truely stunning place. We went there arround midday on a very hot day, but the trees gave enough shade to make it very comportable to be there. The forest itself is not really special, but you can take a nice walk in the shade. The peacocks however are more than special. When we arrive and opened our car door (more than enough on-site-parking available) we were immidatly "greeted" by one of those beautiful birds standing like one meter away from our car. There are a lot of them, they are not shy, you can walk up to them and take pictures close-up. We saw quiet a few females with their babies too, it was so cute. You can hear their beautiful calls throughout the forest. There was also a single cat and a few ducks. If you are lucky you might spot "Angel", a very rare white peacock.
Getting there is easy and it only takes like 10 Minutes from the airport. Upon entering the forest the road is no longer paved but the street is kept in very good condition. On site there is no toilet and also no shops so make sure to bring a bottle of water and plan your "needs" accordingly. We did this as our "last stop" on the day of departures, which worked great.
Dont plan too much time tho. We planned to stay for two hours but left after one because its not really a big place. However, its a magical, one-of-a-kind experience you wont get at any zoo or similar. We definitely...

Read moreThis little forest is very beautiful and well cared by Michaela and Kelvin. Those two not only take care of the peacocks, they also help so many kittens with their organization „Kittys of Kefalos“. The cats can live in the forest and get cared and fed by Michaela and Kelvin every day and they can live a bit away from the streets and the danger. Michaela and Kelvin finance their work from donations…If you also want to donate money or foot for the animals, it’s highly appreciated!! BUT please give your donation to this two / their organization and not the old man who’s also sitting in the forest on his chair! He set up donation cans saying it’s for cat food but this man empty’s the cans and doesn’t do anything for the animals! Please think of that so you actually help the animals with your donation! Thank you Michaela and Kelvin for your...
