Paralia Melidoni — Attraction in Municipality of Kythira

Τα Κύθηρα μπορεί να μην μας κέρδισαν σαν νησί, όμως το Μελιδόνι μας έσωσε τις διακοπές. Ο δρόμος, έχει βελτιωθεί κάπως, ακόμα βέβαια ειναι δύσκολος αλλά η ανταμοιβή σου όταν φτάσεις δεν περιγράφεται. Φοβερή εξυπηρέτηση από τους ανθρώπους που διαχειρίζονται τις ξαπλώστρες/ομπρέλες! Οι οποίοι είναι συνέχεια με το χαμόγελο, καθαρίζουν τις ξαπλωστρες με detol πριν στις παραδώσουν, δίνουν μανταλάκια για τις πετσέτες, κέρασμα παξιμαδακι τοπικής παραγωγής και σακουλάκια για τα σκουπιδάκια. Πήγαμε κατά τις 11:00π.μ. και βρήκαμε άνετα parking και ξαπλώστρες (το σετ 15 ευρώ με ομπρέλα). Έχει beach bar που παίζει τέλεια χαλαρή μουσική, δημιουργώντας ατμόσφαιρα πραγματικής χαλάρωσης και προσφέρει καφεδάρες, σνακ, club sandwich κτλ, σε πολύ λογικές τιμές. Πέρα απ όλα αυτά διαθέτουν υπηρεσία για να κάνεις zip line ξεκινόντας απο τον βράχο και καταλήγοντας στη θάλασσα. Μικρός παράδεισος με κρυστάλλινα γαλαζοπράσινα νερά, ήσυχος φυσικός κόλπος. Η αμμουδιά συνδυάζεται με μικρά βότσαλα, κάνοντας το τοπίο ακόμη πιο όμορφο. Η κυρία Ρέα, η ψυχή της παραλίας, είναι απίστευτη — φιλική, ευγενική και πάντα με χαμόγελο, εκείνη και όλη η ομάδα προσφέρει service και επαγγελματισμό που σπάνια συναντάς χαρίζοντας μας μία εμπειρία που έκανε τις μέρες μας αξέχαστες και μας θύμισε τι σημαίνει ελληνική φιλοξενία. Εδώ νιώθεις πραγματικά καλοδεχούμενος και φροντισμένος. Συνολικά, είναι η πιο όμορφη και ήρεμη παραλία του νησιού — ιδανική για όσους θέλουν καθαρή θάλασσα και χαλαρό περιβάλλον.

Kythera may not have won us over as an island, but Melidoni saved our vacation. The road has improved somewhat—though it’s still challenging—but the reward when you arrive is beyond words. Amazing service from the people who manage the sunbeds and umbrellas! Always with a smile on their faces, they clean the sunbeds with Dettol before handing them over, provide clips for your towels, offer a local treat as a welcome and even give you little bags for your trash. We arrived around 11:00 a.m. and easily found parking and sunbeds (a set costs €15 with an umbrella). There’s a beach bar playing perfect chill music, creating a truly relaxing atmosphere, and offering excellent coffee, snacks, club sandwiches, etc., at very reasonable prices. On top of all that, they offer a zip line experience starting from the cliff and ending in the sea. A small paradise with crystal-clear turquoise waters, a quiet natural bay. The beach combines sand with small pebbles, making the scenery even more beautiful. Mrs. Rea, the hostess and literal queen of the beach, is incredible—friendly, polite, and always smiling. She and the whole team provide service and professionalism that you rarely encounter, giving us an experience that made our days unforgettable and reminded us what Greek hospitality truly means. One of the best organized beaches of Kythera. Half of the beach is free, the other half is occupied by sunbeds/umbrellas for the cost of 12 euros (end July 2023). There are shower, exchange facility & 2 sea swings, for free. Upon renting sunbeds you will be given a waste bag and a traditional Kythera dried biscuit. There are also available some adventures activities, like gliding from a height via rope into the water (13 euros) and canoe 2 hours excursion with a guide to nearby -unreachable by foot- beaches (35 euros). __ The only downside is the cost for renting a two person canoe, which is 40 euros for an hour. The beach is beautiful as a location and has lovely clear waters.However, it is completely ruined, in my opinion, by human intervention - most of the beach is taken over by umbrellas and sunbeds from the beach bar, which has rather loud music, and there is also a zip line along the seafront which I guess is considered a water sport, with people coming down right where you are swimming. Especially the last one was very offputting, as it is the main thing you see when you are looking at the sea from the beach -not sure how this is allowed.
