One of the most beautiful natural parks of Attica, even though neglected at a large degree. Great for bird watching due to the large wetland in the heart of the park. There are bird watching towers around the park. There is also a large variety of wild flowers, especially in spring. Receives a lot of visitors in the summertime due to its easily accesible sandy beach and shallow crystal waters. Best for a swim in north winds. In south winds it gets a lot of waves and the waters get muddy. In the high winds it is closed to visitors due to high risk of fire in the dense coastal stone pine forest. On the north side of the beach there is a stream ending up in the sea. The stream water is poluted by the nearby houses so avoid that side of the beach. There is also piling up of dead poseidonia seaweed on that side (this is a natural phenomenon and hosts a small ecosystem), so another reason to choose to swim a little further. On the side of the park there is a rowing center open to the public. You can walk, ride your bike or watch rowing teams practice. It is not allowed to light a fire and camp in the park. Please don't forget to collect your trash and avoid driving your car on the coastal sandy road, because it damages stone pine roots and you may get stuck in the sand. Historical fact: this is the area where the Persian fleet embarked before the Battle of Marathon in 490bc, which took place a little further...
Read moreOne of the most beautiful beaches in Attica, unique with its huge line forest behind the beach. Even more beautiful now, that they disallowed the entry of cars into the pine forest. Caution: It can get very busy & loud on weekends and summer holidays, especially at the very end where the parking is. The beach is all sand, the very shallow kind, that you need to walk for a good distance before it's deep enough to normally swim. For this reason it's a great beach for hanging out half inside the water, & really good for kids. At the beginning of the beach there are some beach bars with bar, music and sunbeds with umbrellas, if that's your thing. At the end of the beach is all natural, no sunbeds, but with plenty of shade to choose...
Read moreMy favorite beach in proximity to Athens as it runs along the Protected National Park of Schinias. It's beautiful and you can see people of all ages. You can see trees all over and beautiful sight of the mountains in proximity. You can hear the cicadas singing the while find you are there. You may bring your own umbrella or seat under a tree if shade is needed. There are lifeguards on towers along the beach for safety. You may go to areas where more people are present, or a bit further where less people go. I have never seen it being too crowded. The beach is also pet friendly! 😃 For parking, you need to leave the car by the main road, there's no car access through the park. Do not park on the yellow lines, you'll...
