Lovely place with picturesque views! Nice walk to the waterfalls /lakes. Please note there are very few signs/indications of the actual path leading to the biggest waterfall. After having walked to the first lake take the path on your RIGHT hand. This is the one that leads to the big waterfall through 2 wooden bridges. The path is not extremely difficult to follow, although at least trainers if not hiking boots are recommended. Not the safest choice for kids /elderly people as the rocks you have to climb are quite slippery. The root is not long (maybe less than an hour in total) but it can be quite tricky on a hot/sunny day. You can definitely give yourself a few minutes to enjoy a cool dive in one of the lakes, but bare in mind that the place can be quite crowded, especially during weekends and after 12.00 pm. I would definitely suggest visiting the little wooden kiosk which is located in the car park BEFORE you start walking down to the lakes and ask for directions. The staff is very helpful and kind!!!Or you can always make a stop for water, coffee or a quick snack...
Read moreThis is one of a kind complex of waterfalls. It is the Messinian paradise from my perspective. If you ever visit Messinia this complex of lakes and waterfalls provide one in a lifetime experience. The water is crystal clear, there are multiple trails to follow from smaller to larger lakes, where you can relax and retouched from your busy life. The place doesn't have organized trails though, and you have to be careful as it has many steep areas, no signal (4G), which makes it pretty easy to get hurt, or loose one of your friends/family members (true story). Moreover, please bring sun tan and most importantly shoes (favourably hiking shoes). Bringing simply sandals will make your walk harder, less adventurous and being anxious for every step you take. Also, the cafeteria at the entrance of the Polylimnio Waterfalls offers great coffee, beverages and snacks. If you are not organized and do not have food and water remember to buy some from there before your long lasting walk! This is a place you can't miss at the Peloponnese, it is a treasure not only for tourists but...
Read moreBeautiful waterfalls and small lakes which are accessable to take a swim. Dont be surprised: The road to Polylimnio is quite bumpy and not asphalted, even though we made it with our small car. The last part of the way to the big waterfall is a simple walk over some stones, some can be slippery. At the end there is the Polylimnio waterfall and a small lake to take a refresh. For hikers: The real adventure starts right there. Bring some good hiking shoes and take the steps at the right of the waterfall. You will need to climb a bit uphill but afterwards you can enjoy nature to its fullest. Definetly less Tourists. I personally recommend the MapsMe App as it shows und guides you sustainable through this paths in direction of Mavrolimna waterfall. The highlight is a short climb directly besides and in a small waterfall (Photo). The following path goes besides a river and is quite a jungle - still good to follow. It ends at Mavrolimna.
For the Operator: It would be great If the hiking paths are marked somehow clearer so you would...
