Cape Drastis, located on the northwesternmost tip of Corfu, is a truly breathtaking natural wonder that deserves a top spot on any visitor's itinerary. It's not your typical sandy beach destination but rather a dramatic and unspoiled cape characterized by its stunning white and ochre-colored cliffs that plunge into the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. What makes Cape Drastis so special is the unique geology that has been sculpted over millennia by wind and waves. The soft, clay-like rock has been eroded into a mesmerizing array of intricate formations, including arches, caves, and stacks. From certain vantage points, the cape can even resemble a giant turtle head emerging from the sea, with smaller rock formations appearing like swimming turtles around it. Exploring Cape Drastis offers several experiences: Breathtaking Panoramic Views: Even reaching the area offers incredible vistas. A narrow road from the village of Peroulades leads to a point above the cape, providing stunning panoramic views of the dramatic coastline, the Ionian Sea, and the nearby Diapontia Islands. The sunsets from this vantage point are particularly spectacular and shouldn't be missed. Boat Trips and Hidden Coves: To truly appreciate the beauty of the sculpted cliffs and discover hidden sea caves, taking a boat trip is highly recommended. Several local operators offer tours that navigate along the coastline, allowing you to get up close to the formations and even stop for a swim or snorkel in secluded coves with fine, clay-like sand. Be mindful that boat access is weather-dependent. Hiking and Coastal Walks: For the more adventurous, there are walking paths around the area, offering different perspectives of the cape and the surrounding landscape. Be cautious near the cliff edges as they can be steep and uneven. Untouched Natural Beauty: Unlike some of the more developed areas of Corfu, Cape Drastis retains a wild and unspoiled charm. The area is rich in local flora, and if you're lucky, you might even spot wildlife like turtles and dolphins. In essence, Cape Drastis is about: Dramatic Natural Scenery: Impressive, sculpted cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Unique Geological Formations: A testament to the power of natural erosion. Tranquility and Escape: A peaceful retreat away from crowded beaches. Photographic Opportunities: An incredibly photogenic location. While it might not be ideal for those seeking vast sandy beaches and readily available amenities, the raw beauty and unique character of Cape Drastis make it an unforgettable destination in Corfu, offering a chance to connect with...
Read moreA really nice beach with cliffs sculpted by the sea. Getting to the beach is only by walking, you have to leave the car up at the small parking lot or along the road. The road as most of the roads in Corfu is narrow and if there are cars parked along one side it is impossible for two cars to pass by so be aware of that. Once you leave the parking lot, you can just follow one of the two ways down to the Cape Drastis beach. The walk is very pleasant, but for some people it may be strenuous on the way back (about 50m vertical gain). It takes about 10-15 minutes to get to the beach. There are lots of places to take photos of the cliffs and beaches from high up. The cliffs are quite high so if you wander around just be careful because they end quite unexpectedly in some places. Views are great, the beach is very small but you can get a boat to nearby beaches and cliffs and to Sidari. We came here during quite windy conditions and the waves were high so it was unsafe to enter the water but during nice weather conditions this beach can probably get very crowded. Definitely worth visiting, even just to see the cliffs...
Read moreAmazing place!! Totally worth the drive, but arrive around 12 the latest. There is a very limited parking, bit you can follow the dirt road down about 50 metres, there is another spot to park or drive all the way down, it is allowed. We took a walk down and it was cool, about 10 minutes. There is a boat trip service, 20€ per person to do the Cape, 20€ to do the Canal on the left or 30€ to do both (per person, we did the 30€ trip). Absolutely amazing, we had the boat for just the two of us with a great captain explaining many things about the location and Corfu in general. He let's you drive the boat as well, btw. One hour tour, pay with cash only. There is a tiny changing room there and a great rocky point to swim down by the boat rental. Bring your...
