The new museum in Patras is probably the city's best-kept secret. I went there on a Sunday (they are open and they're shut on Mondays) and had the place all to myself. There is no food and drink that can be bought on the premises so, for now at least, be prepared to go a little hungry and thirsty but it's worth it.
The exhibits are tremendous. They provide deep insight into the past of a country where if you get out in the street and dig a few metres down you're going to discover antiquities. They have curated some of the best finds and the effect is indescribable. I sat mesmerised looking at a 3,000 year old skeleton whose owner had died a violent death. This is Greece's second-largest after the new Acropolis Museum. A Museum has four thematic sections, three of which permanent and one periodic. Everything is presented very professionally, all of the exhibits have had a lot of thought put into not just how they are displayed but how the average visitor will see them. There are screens showing videos and information about what you're seeing. It's overall a very concise museum that takes you through the history of the city from ancient times til today. It's facade is also lovely and makes the building stick out and hard to miss. The only downside is the location but if you have a car it shouldn't be to much trouble getting there. Very stellar...
