I still say, it is not a graveyard - I say, it was a kindergarden! Everywhere little sleeping cabins in the ground - at 40 degrees definitiv does makes sense - some bigger rooms, where you can sit around and have your meal - if you are a pretty little person - and some celebrations areas at the top. A groundplan like a gym bag filled with ribs and a backbone does makes a really fantastical sentence about the mind of the old minoan people - or who even knows cretan.. but who cares, I am not a scientific archaeologhical specialist, and so I just can say: An impressive place, where you can have a deep view into a very different time! Some parts of the architectonicals are looking in my eyes additional like impressed by the old egypts - where is a big and deep contact to known today. But, I am not a specialist! Worth to have a look for, worth to walk and watch around,...

Its an imposing cemetery site of the late Mycenaean age. This practically means that this site dates back to 3.5 thousands of years ago. Archeologists excavated 500 selections and discovered 200 tombs. In two of those you can walk, not much to see but, just to inhale the history of you ares into that 😁 Some parts of the site have been locked out with fence so, it might MAYBE mean they will open additional discoveries… Ticket is 3 euros. Not sure if it’s justifiable though.

A late Minoan necropolis with stunning tombs some big enough to house the living. The tombs are reminiscent of similar ones you might see in mainland Greece as by that time Greek culture was changing the ancient customs of the Minoans. The site is quite extensive and you need at least an hour to walk the many pathways and descent into the world of the dead. The place is especially beautiful in Spring when a multitude of colourful flowers carpet the site.

It’s hard to give this five stars, as it just isn’t as impressive as a Greek auditorium or temple. This is a bunch of holes in the ground (and some pretty involved underground structures) where people were buried many years ago. Cool to see it, but wasn’t “epic”. I would be surprised if you could spend more than 45 minutes here, but maybe I have attention span issues :)
