We saw signs for this place while driving around Rhodes. Looked it up when we got back to our hotel to see whether it would be worth visiting. It looked like a place that would interest us. So we went there as part of a trip to various places. We ended up staying here for an hour and a half because it is actually really interesting! The bees themselves and their “societies” are described in detail, as well as the beekeepers, their methods and tools, and the history that bees and humans have shared. There are fun digital and physical games to keep kids (and adults I might add 😁) occupied and interested. What's also great is that they have actual live bee colonies there that you can see at work because their hives are in seethrough boxes! After our visit to the museum we were able to sample various types and flavors of honey. We liked one of them so much that we ended up buying various jars of honey from the museum 😋! Their products are high quality and some of them are produced by the museum itself. But: the prices are very reasonable! All in all definitely worth a visit if you're at all interested in these beautiful creatures and their ways. The entrance fee was only €3!! We're thinking about how to improve our garden at home to better accomodate bees as a result...
Read morePopped in on one of our drives around the island and we really enjoyed it! Very informative. There’s interactive quizzes dotted around and you can even have a go at drawing a bee!- although the paint tool wasn’t very good at picking up where you were drawing🤣 there are facts all over the walls telling you literally all there is to know about bees and honey. There are also old bits and pieces around like tubes that they used to use as hives. Very historic. There’s also a gift shop which has t shirts, all types of honey, honeycomb, creams, plushies etc. When you first go in they give you a little honey and sesame seed treat. They also have bees in hives inside the museum, in plastic though so they aren’t buzzing around you, on these they have magnifying glasses so you can see them up close. Took us around an hour to go around so not a whole day out but worth a visit. 4€ each for an adult. There is also honey tasting at the main reception where the...
Read moreI am probably the outcast here with my review as it differs to what many have said and so I suppose this purely about a question of personal preferences/tastes.
We actually stopped there on our way to the airport as we had some time to kill and the kids wanted to visit the museum.
I wasn’t sure really what to expect but all I know after visiting the place is that I felt underwhelmed. I was expecting to see more live bees/beehives than mainly artefacts. The only bees we saw was at the end of the museum where they had a beehive behind the glass you could watch. That’s what the kids and I enjoyed the most.
The museum visit lasted 20mins for us and the highlights for us were: free honey snacks given free honey tasting live view of bees in the museum variety of honey pots to choose from (we bought...
