Amazing with old trees like this, you always stop to think how intr. It's story would be if it could communicate it! Anyway-as always with historic stuff on Salamina - no pride or care. Loads of garbage around it and seemingly not tended to. Not even a sign that could give at least a little more info or history regarding what you view, well except that it is adopted as the only living thing from the era of the famous sea battle. Really sad because this tree has an intr. Look.

Στη Σαλαμίνα, στην Κοινότητα Αιαντείου, υπάρχει μια γέρικη, πολύ μεγάλη ελιά, γνωστή ως «Ελιά της Όρσας». Πρόσφατα το δέντρο χρονολογήθηκε από τους ειδικούς του Ινστιτούτου Klorane, στα πλαίσια της αναζήτησης και βράβευσης των αρχαίων ελαιοδένδρων στην Ελλάδα, οι οποίοι υπολόγισαν πως η ηλικία του είναι 2.500 χρόνια. Υπάρχει η φήμη ότι φυτεύτηκε από τον τύραννο των Πεισίστρατο ή κατόπιν, έστω, εντολής του. Όπως και να έχει πρόκειται για τον μοναδικό ζωντανό οργανισμό που επιβιώνει από τη Ναυμαχία της Σαλαμίνας μέχρι σήμερα !

I could not believe how large this tree and it's growth were. . and it also had olives grown in a large portion of the tree. It makes you realize how little our human life is...

Στην περιοχή του Αιαντείου Σαλαμίνας και επί της Λεωφ. Κακηβίγλας βρίσκεται η λεγόμενη ως σήμερα ελιά της Όρσας (Ορσίας). Η Όρσα σύμφωνα με τις προφορικές παραδόσεις έζησε κατά τον 17ο αιώνα και είχε ως μοναδική προίκα την ελιά αυτή. Ο κεντρικός κορμός της ελιάς έχει περίμετρο 5,70 μέτρα. Γύρω από αυτόν υπάρχουν άλλοι έξι μεγάλοι κορμοί και η συνολική περιφέρεια αυξάνεται στα 12,50 περίπου μέτρα.

Χρειάζεται λίγη περιποίηση όσον αφορά στα σκουπίδια (πλαστικά μπουκάλια,σακούλες, ποτήρια καφέ) στην ευρύτερη περιοχή. Χαλάει πολύ την εικόνα...
