Very beautiful island, not really on the tourist trail but the easiest to get to, as it's only a 3/4 hour trip by small boat from Piraeus , so essentially you can be on the beach within 2 hours of landing at Athens Airport.(All night ferryboats from Perama , which is a short taxi or bus ride from Piraeus if you arrive at night) The West and southern coasts have the best beaches and the main gulf of Salamis has some excellent beaches, too. Clean, clear warm water and safe for children. Not developed as a tourist destination although the population swells from 50,000 to 200,000 during the Summertime. This may seem like a lot of people, but Salamina is a large island and can absorb this volume of people. The mainland side of the island Is a bit industrial in places but none the less attractive and interesting. Lots of history dating back to the Battle of Salamis and beyond. Very Greek and very friendly, mostly made up of people from Athens and Piraeus who spend the Summers there, but more and more European tourists are finding their way . Lots of bars, clubs and nightlife. Salamina town has large supermarkets ,(Lidl) tavernas and everything that one would need while holidaying there. Much cheaper than the more well known Greek islands. Check out Airbnb or similar as there are not a lot of campsites. One that I know of is at Kanakia on the west of the island. it's ok but a bit...

Salamis Island is a great getaway from Athens, offering a mix of scenic coastal views, peaceful beaches, and historical significance. The ferry ride to the island was quick, affordable, and convenient, making it an easy choice for a short trip.
Once on the island, we enjoyed relaxing by the sea, exploring the coastline, and soaking in the laid-back atmosphere. The island has a nice blend of rocky and sandy beaches, and it’s a great place to drive around and explore different spots at your own pace. The history of the Battle of Salamis adds an interesting layer to the visit, though we focused more on enjoying the natural beauty.
One thing to note is that while Salamis is beautiful and peaceful, it doesn’t have the same level of tourism development as other Greek islands. This is great if you’re looking for a quiet, non-touristy experience, but it also means fewer organized activities and some areas that could use a bit more maintenance.
Overall, a solid 4/5 – a wonderful place to relax, enjoy nature, and escape the city. I’d definitely recommend it for a chill day trip, especially if you have a...
Read moreSalamis is a small island in the saronic gulf quite close to the main land. Athenians go there for the weekend or to have some fresh seafood at reasonable prices. The best about the island is that there is hardly any tourism. You might airbnb a small bungalow, to spend some time amongst the locals. Food (like vegetables, fruits) is about half the price compared to Athens and usually of better quality. The beaches are small, not overcrowded and easy to reach. You may use the island bus but unless you you love to wait, I'd recommend a car which you should rent in Athens or Piraeus. Car ferries run 24/7 from Perama. Once there, enjoy a day at the beach, have a snack in one of the few beach bars or Taverna. Go to Paloukia in the evening, the island's capital and take a walk at the marina. Salamis is laid back, not stylish, not pictorial, just plain and simple. This is...
